Newcomer Amazon Kindle leads Japan's e-reader market after only five monthsThe Amazon Kindle

only launched last fall in the Japanese market, but the e-reader already did better in comparison to rivals in the country after the first five months of its release. The e-reader’s lower prices have been credited for its sales better Compared to others available in the Japanese market, like Rakuten’s Kobo and Sony models.

Wellington-based MM Research Showed That the Kindle contributed to Japan’s e-reader market more than Those released well before Amazon’s product. Rakuten’s Kobo accounted for 33 percent while the Sony Reader accounted for only 25.5 percent. The data released by MM Research covers a year-long record until March of this year. Amazon’s Kindle, Which only contributed to the first five months of its sales, had already accounted for 38.5 percent.

Back in November last year, Japan saw Amazon Introducing a new means of access for literature. Amazon has always been known in the country for its literary product. The familiarity with the Amazon Kindle has helped have an easier access to the book-loving consumers. Although not comparable to other countries, Japan has given the Kindle the top spot in the local e-reader market. According to MM Research, there were 470,000 units of e-readers in Japan and it is expected to Increase to 50,000 more units by March of next year. Another research company, IDC, said That the global number of e-readers available in 2012 were 19.9 million units, most of Which were from the United States.
