Amazon supports reading, distributing Kindle – Onet.pl

Reports show that in many countries the level of readership in recent years has significantly decreased and many people have long not have read a single book. Without going into the reasons for this state of affairs, Amazon intends to take action, which should somewhat improve this situation.

The US company has just announced a new initiative called Kindle Reading Fund, which is to support reading. As part of the project, the company will support literacy programs organized in developing countries, giving them free reader Kindle and Kindle Fire tablets. The device will also go to schools, libraries, hospitals and non-profit organizations from all over the world.

to ensure that the device will go into the right hands, Amazon has joined forces with the non-profit organization called Worldreader, which provides ebooks for children and families living in developing countries . This is not the first such cooperation, since previously the two entities together provide digital books to 61 libraries in Kenya.

Kindle 8 – test – Benchmark.pl – benchmark.pl

Kindle 8 is a basic e-book reader offered by Amazon. It is clearly cheaper than the Paperwhite, Voyage and primarily Oasis. Understandably, much of them are also different. First of all, we do not find here doświetlanego screen, so you can read even late in the evening or at night without turning on additional light source. To lower the price of the device used here also display a lower resolution.

Does this mean that the latest Kindle edition 8 should not have a reason to exist? On the contrary. This is an excellent example of how we should look modern, easy to use and seamlessly operating reader, which in addition is available at a very affordable price.

Specifications Kindle 8:

Model Kindle 8
Price on test ok. 350 zł (version with ads)
Display 6″, 800×600, 167 ppi
E Ink Pearl (16 shades of gray)
touch, no more light
memory 4 GB
Connectors micro USB 2.0
Wireless Communication Wi-Fi 802.11 b / g / n
Bluetooth
Dimensions 160 x 115 x 9.1 mm
weight 161 g
Supported file formats MOBI, AZW3, AZW, TXT, PDF, PRC, HTML, DOC, DOCX, JPEG, GIF, PNG, BMP
Contents reader, microUSB cable, Quick Start Guide use, warranty card

Appearance and ergonomics

I had the opportunity to test a lot of readers, including the latest model of Kindle Oasis (in which I fell in love, but for me it is too expensive ), as well as probably currently the most popular reader Paperwhite 3 (my primary reader). In terms of design the new Kindle 8 ranks right between them. It looks much like Paperwhite, but in terms of lightness much closer to his Oasis.

8 Kindle in hand

8 Kindle is surprisingly light. Weighing just 161 grams, which is over 40 grams less than the Paperwhite. The difference on paper might not seem so significant, but I assure you that it is very clearly felt in the course of reading. “The eight” is much more comfortable to hold in one hand than the Paperwhite. Weighing only 130 grams Oasis can compete in this respect with the new kundalini.

The second thing is much narrower frame around the screen. At first glance, it seems by the fact that the display itself is smaller, but it is only an illusion. As with all Amazon readers, here we have a screen size of 6 inches. Smaller frames make, however, that the reader is more convenient, take up less space and easier to hold in your hand.

comparison of Kindle 8 next Paperwhite 3 screen

the housing reader is made of matte plastic. However, while the Paperwhite rear part of the casing is made of plastic with a rubberized texture, so Kindle 8 of the missing. By this reader is a little more slippery, and for that you need to get used to – I think that this is our first e-book reader, it will not be this problem.

 Kindle rear 8

Those seeking a large number of connectors will probably be disappointed, but in truth, no additional ports in addition to the micro USB are not needed here. This terminal will serve to charge the reader and connect it to your computer (in this way you can eg. Upload larger files, such as a book with a lot of illustrations or photos).

Display

Ok, the new Kindle is lighter and more portable than its older and more expensive brother, so why is it so much cheaper? The difference lies mainly in the display. We are here because E Ink Pearl display with a resolution of 800 x 600 pixels, which gives a ratio of ppi of 167. This is almost two times less than the Paperwhite models and Oasis.

 comparison page with text Bookerly

If you change to either of these readers , the difference will be visible to the naked eye. Fonts are less clear (this is especially evident in the case of the font Palatino, which on 8 Kindle just looks bad). Choosing popular Bookerly is much better. Unfortunately, photos do not reflect this fully.

comparison page with text Palatino

There is also more light here. When reading during the day is not noticeable, because text is perfectly readable (no different from ordinary paper). However, if you want to read in low light (in the evening, at night, or even on the tram), it can not do without an external source of light.

Work

When it comes to working time, it does not fault anything. When fully charged, the battery energy is enough to us for a few weeks. I use it both in the course of a week’s holiday and the usual working days, when I had time to read in the tram or just before bedtime. During the two weeks testing the battery level dropped to half, so I can safely say that it is good.

The service and menu

Menu reader is identical to the more expensive models. By launching the Kindle first go through a quick tutorial, where you can get tips on how to use the reader. We will learn how to change the page, how to run menu and connect the device to the network and register your account Amazon.

Sam main screen to view recently read books and orders from Amazon. The latter can be turned off in the settings. Our books are located in the My Library. Here one important thing. We are here because two views. By selecting “All” will display all the books we have placed in the Amazon cloud, while “Downloaded” is a book downloaded to the reader or uploaded directly from your computer. Books can be displayed as a list or as thumbnails of cover art (if available).

at the top of the screen is the menu bar, where we find a shortcut to the home screen, turn on flight mode, synchronize the reader from Amazon account (useful if you read on multiple devices), and go to store.

More advanced settings are in a separate menu. We set there, among others, WiFi connection, device name, connect to Facebook and Twitter to share your favorite quotes, you can also set parental controls or restore the reader to factory settings.

Read

well, and how latest Kindle works in practice? Very good. If you want to start your adventure with e-book reader, the “Eight” is probably one of the best choices at this point. The reader works fast, I got the impression that even faster than the Paperwhite and Oasis. This is due to the fact that here we have the screen with a lower resolution, which is much less stress for the components.

Of course, during the change of sides, this difference is not so important, but it can be seen, eg. When browsing the menu . The difference is, however, visible in display quality. Unfortunately, E Ink Pearl in this respect quite significantly inferior nowszemu E Ink Carta, so the first time during the change from the Paperwhite for me was quite painful. Fonts are less clear and sharp. Fortunately, after a long time somehow forget about it and just dove in reading.

Kindle 8 page change

we can not however forget about the lack of additional lighting, so reading in the evening we have to support the lamp. If, however, and so lighting is not for us a key element of the reader, the Kindle meet expectations.

It is light, handy, and its price (especially by ordering directly from Amazon store) is very advantageous. 8 Kindle, it’s just a very good device. Perfect for that, to see if the e-book reader, it’s something for me. I recommend it!

The final evaluation:

  • a much slimmer and lighter body
  •

  • full screen readable even in strong sunlight
  •

  • convenient Touch Control
  •

  • smooth operation interface
  •

  • The battery can withstand several weeks

Windows 10 Anniversary Update Kindle + = problem – the benchmark.pl

A A

In the context of Windows 10 already talked about several issues. The manufacturer is trying to eliminate them on a regular basis, but at the same time all the time there are new. Not without them, as in the case of the last major update – Anniversary Update.

In recent days, there were some voices talking about a rather unusual situation. It turns out, because it has been confirmed that computers with Windows 10 Anniversary Update does not want to cooperate with readers Amazon Kindle, specifically Kindle Paperwhite and Kindle Voyage.

At the time of connecting the reader to a PC or laptop (via USB ), the system stops responding and displays how unpopular Blue Screen of Death (BSOD).

Interestingly, if the reader is connected by turning on your computer or laptop, everything works as it should. It was also noted that the described situation applies to port mainly USB 2.0 when using the higher standard of behavior occurs much less frequently.

Microsoft is not cut off by the subject, but at the moment solutions are not found.

8 Review of Kindle – the cheapest Kindle has never been so good. It lacks only one thing – Antyweb

8. generation Kindle is not a revolutionary product. Truth be told differences compared to the previous version are very subtle. For this reason, I want to first of all in his article concentrate on what’s found in the tested reader. The official premiere took place in June 2016 year. It is a completely different category than the Voyage of equipment or Oasis – located on the exact opposite end of the offer. Price in the German Amazon is 79.99 euros, per gives about 350 zlotys. We do not pay at the same time for the shipment. Is this the best ebook reader for the money?

Appearance and performance

The design of the Kindle reader, not counting the model Oasis, for a long time does not pass major transformations. Kindle 8 in this respect is not surprising. The reader is a slimmer, thinner and lighter than its predecessor. For the test model got dark (dark gray actually), but the offer is also a white version. The dimensions of 160 mm x 115 mm x 9.1 mm are primarily driven by a very thin frame around the screen. In contrast, weight 161 g gives him the title of the second lightest Kindle in history (after the model of Oasis). The eye-catcher is here primarily a fairly significant rounding of the edges and plecków housing.

In all other respects it is rather classic. At the bottom edge you will find MicroUSB connector and the only physical button to and sleep, wake and Reset (after a long hold) Kindle. Below the screen is adorned with the brand logo Kindle, and placed on the back of a large postage Amazon.

Display

8 used in the Kindle display is the E Ink Pearl panel with a diagonal of 6 inches. It works at a resolution of 800 x 600 pixels, which gives a density of 167 PPI. Unfortunately, this can be felt in everyday use – especially in a situation where we had previously dealt with screens with higher resolution. Of course there is nothing you could not be used. He himself once used the older version of the reader with a screen resolution exactly and they burned my eyes. The fact that the fonts are somewhat blurred and less severe as compared to Oasis several times more expensive model. But does anyone surprised?

The screen has no backlight, what exactly is its greatest drawback. Of course, hardly require a reader for 350 zlotys were solutions of much more expensive models. I must admit, however, that very soon got used to this mechanism, and I find it hard to imagine it without reading. At the same time I do not have here only thinking of the evening session with a book. Backlight is useful very often – even in situations when the screen falls annoying shadow.

Amazon Kindle (2016) – Stuff

It might have cost you a whole lot less than Those other Kindles, but this entry-level model is still running the same OS. It’s got double the RAM of the old one too, so it feels a lot nippier when turning pages or opening menus.

A recent UI overhaul Means you get a home screen filled with the books you’re reading, plus the ones on your wishlist. You can quickly jump into Airplane mode and force a Wi-Fi sync now too – although I’ve never had a problem with my Kindles staying bang up to date.

Best sellers and recommendations show up at the bottom of the home page, and the unless you shell out an extra tenner on the Kindle without ‘Special Offers’, these’ll show up as screensavers too. You can pay to get them switched off after you’ve bought them, so do not feel you have to splash the cash right away.

Amazon really has set the benchmark for e-readers with the Kindle. All your books live in the cloud, so you can delete them from your device if you run out of space and download them again any time. The price you pay? We are limited to buying books from Amazon. Still, given the massive selection and rock bottom prices, this is hardly a chore.

Oh, and it’ll still last for weeks between battery charges too.
