The renowned British fashion brand is one of the few retailers in the UK, which has a dedicated app specifically for the Kindle tablet. Among the other feature Mothercare and Debenhams.

River Island firmly committed to the development of sales in m-commerce channel. We have already introduced mobile applications for users of iPhones, iPads, Androids and Blackeberry. In total, so far applications River Island has been downloaded 3.6 million copies.

“The success of these applications shows that modern consumers making purchases using their mobile devices more engaging and satisfying than through traditional Web page “- says Jonathan Heap, chief technical officer at NN4M, which is responsible for developing mobile applications River Island.

With Android on the Kindle

Now this list has joined the Kindle app – Portable device for, among others, for reading e-books and e-newspapers launched by the world’s biggest online store Amazon. Kindle App Allows customers to view the full range of brands, read the information on the latest fashion trends, and finally the purchase of selected products. But that’s not all. Application of River Island on your Kindle

For companies that already have mobile apps for Android, creating a Kindle version does not require special labor. “The codes used to create these applications are 99% the same. Thus, even if the number of users of the Kindle is disproportionately smaller than the holders of iPhones or Androids, very little effort, you can expand the range of mobile customers by a few thousand people, “- explains Harriet Phimister from NN4M.

Tablets force m -commerce

So far, commercial networks rarely made use of this possibility. The reason was clear – the owner of the Kindle is the Internet giant Amazon, which many retailers multichannelowych is considered to be the main competitor. Recently, however, this is changing. Firstly, because it arrives Kindle users, and second tablet users become a major force in the channel m-commerce. According to data from comScore, in the second quarter of 2014. sale via the tablet was 46% of total turnover in the channel m-commerce. This is an increase of 75% year on year.

New subscription Legimi: Monthly book on any device – even on … – dobreprogramy

Subscribe Legimi that allows “borrow” and read a book in electronic form on mobile devices and computers, has one huge drawback – it requires a special application for action. Unfortunately not install it on most readers, which effectively deters Kindli holders and similar devices from the bookstore offers. Perhaps the situation will change thanks to the Book Box.

The creation of the offer was made possible through cooperation with SubClub – platform of stores selling on a subscription basis. In addition to boxes of books from Legimi we can find a constant supply of subscriptions to even teas, sweets from around the world, baits for fishing and animal feed.

Due to technical limitations, we can not speak of a direct transfer Legimi deals on Kindle or similar device. Book Box is promoted as a subscription, but it is possible to buy one of the e-books from the list, every month, at a fixed price. The first step is creating an account on the platform SubClub what can be done traditionally or through Facebook and Google+ (at least in theory, because at the time of writing authorization Google+ did not work). Then select the appropriate subscription – in this case https://www.legimi.com/pl/cennik/Book Box – and buy, paying card or via the Allegro, where you can also pay by bank transfer. When you purchase will be asked for your shipping address – the platform unfortunately was not designed for digital distribution.

Box is equivalent to the code that can be implemented in a bookstore Legimi to receive the selected book. The code will be sent to the e-mail address to create your account, the message will also contained a link to a special page where you can choose a one of the suggested titles this month. Code bought today expires on 29 April.

Each box will be 30 titles, both bestselling and completely unknown. In the current box includes, among other things, “How I Unleashed tape scandal” Peter Nisztora, “centenarian, who jumped out the window and disappeared,” Jonas Jonasson, “Sensual plant life,” Daniel Chamowitza, “sex bomb PRL” Krzysztof Tomasik or “The Beatles” Hunter Davies, so everyone should find something for themselves. The problem may occur if the next offer will not be so interesting. Luckily, the subscription can unsubscribe at any time and will not be downloaded automatically.

Selected book to add to your cart, then enter the payment in the appropriate box discount code from the email … and you’re done – we hold the coveted title. Now just put the file on the device and can be read. The book will be labeled as bought on the virtual shelf at the bookstore customer account, you will be so you can read it as an application Legimi straight from the clouds. Purchased in this way the book will go to another portion loyalty points – this time it’s about a book Mola Club points that can be redeemed for discounts at the bookstore Legimi.

Prices boxes of books are quite attractive – the first will cost PLN 13.99, 14.99 zł another, and after six months the price will drop back to 13.99. By the way, earn loyalty points, which entitle to receive vouchers.

The process of acquiring the book, however, is complex, unstructured, it takes a few minutes and requires opening an account at another, a little-known platform, which Legimi working on this initiative. In terms of convenience, the new offer far more attractive Reading without limit, or pirate sites, from popular books can be downloaded in a few seconds, often without logging and without “jumping” between the portals. Nevertheless, it is worth considering and above this offer – after all, ways to get a good book at a low cost are always welcome.

Earlier this month after weeks of rumors Google finally Announced and revealed the brand new HTC Nexus 9 tablet running the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop. Now that the tablet is Officially confirmed and coming soon, many prospective buyers are weighing Their options When it comes that buying an Android tablet.

With tons of tablets readily available for Android or Apple users, another extremely popular option That is also available many are forgetting about. That being the brand new (2014 version) Amazon Kindle Fire HDX 8.9-inch tablet. They have a lot in common, Including the price.

Read: Nexus 7 9 Features You’ll Love

When it comes it buying a tablet there are tons of choices readily available. However, many want to get the latest and greatest devices, and Those are the iPad Air 2, the Nexus 9, or something from Samsung’s ever-growing lineup. Here we’ll compare the Nexus 9 is Amazon’s newest Kindle Fire tablet HDX.

The Amazon Kindle Fire is an extremely popular tablet thanks to the size, features, and most importantly the price bundled with Amazon Prime services. Last year the Kindle Fire HDX was not as popular and was released later than the regular Kindle Fire HD, and this years successor has gone somewhat under the radar.

Last month Amazon released a new and improved 8.9- inch Kindle Fire HDX for 2014, and it stacks up quite well against the iPad Air 2, iPad Mini 3, and more importantly the new Nexus 9. It has the same size screen, excellent sound, a top-tier speakers and more, all for a decent price. Read on for all the details.

Display

First up would be the display, as that’s one of the most important aspect of any mobile device. Both the Fire HDX 2014 and the Nexus 9 have the same sized screen. Coming in at 8.9-inches, but Amazon actually beats Google the where it counts, Which is the resolution. Meaning pictures and video will be clear and crisp, and things will be vibrant.

The Kindle Fire HDX has an 8.9-inch 2560 x 1600 Full HD display, and it looks just as gorgeous as the model from last year. The Nexus 9 though, is 2048 x 1536, so there’s a difference but probably not one many users eyes will be able to see, but it’s worth Noting.

It’s the perfect middle ground if you ask us. My favorite tablet is the LG G-Pad 8.3, but the 8.9-inch Nexus 9 Seems to be the perfect size, and I’ll update once it arrives. It’s tweaks wider offering a 4: 3 aspect ratio (like the iPad) rather than the long and skinny 16: 9 all other Android tablets employ. This is another key difference it has compared to the Fire HDX.

The new aspect ratio is important. This makes it Easier to hold, better for browsing the web, but will not offer as good of a video playback experience. Overall the welcome the change, and users will enjoy Likely it too.

It’s hard to compare two devices When The Nexus 9 has not been released yet, but That Day is quickly approaching, and we’ll update with a full comparison and our thoughts once we’ve had some hands-on time. That being said, the Fire HDX has one of the best screens we’ve used to date.

Design

One thing you’ll instantly notice Between These two tablets is the design. In my opinion the Nexus 9 has a sleek and premium design, while the Fire HDX looks rather bland and boring. It has unique sharp curves around the back That Should make it easy to hold, but it is not the best looking tablet around. Function over form right?

The entire tablet is made of a durable soft-touch plastic, and is available in black only. The speakers have been improved with Dolby audio with the new Fire HDX, and it features two speaker grills facing backwards on the top back of the device.

however, Google’s Nexus One 9 offers a few important features you’ll want to Consider. For one, they’ve changed the approach of Their tablets and the Nexus 9 finally has a brushed aluminum design around the entire outer edge. That said, for weight and comfort of the back is still a soft touch matte plastic design. Available in black, white, or sand (gold) color options. It looks very similar it back to the Nexus 7 (2013) styles.

Google’s Nexus 9 is sleek, elegant, and has subtle curves as it wraps around the aluminum sides that offer a better experience That feels thinner in the hand than it really is. The Nexus 9 is not as thin as the iPad Air 2 although it’s thinner than the Nexus 7, but the sides curve is a rather thin point and will make it feel extremely thin in your hands. Another major design feature is the dual HTC Boomsound front facing speakers. No tablet makers have done this right, but Google looks to have finally delivered. No more cupping the back trying to get decent sound towards your face.

The Samsung had a tablet with front speakers years ago, but abandoned this obvious and excellent design approach. All said and done the new Nexus 9 is sleek, durable, premium looking and feeling, and will be a great purchase.

On the aspect of the design tweaks That is important is the weight. The Kindle Fire HDX is extremely lightweight, beating out the Nexus 9, iPad, Air, and many other smaller tablets in terms of weight. This makes it Easier to hold, no matter what you’re enjoying a 8.9-inch That screen.

Release Date

Before we talk about the specs and features, you be wondering When small The Nexus 9 is available, in case you missed the announcement. Google’s Nexus 9 went up for pre-order last week and will not be in stores until November 3rd.

If you’re looking to buy a tablet today, right now, the new Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 is an excellent choice. However, there are other options. All said and done, it’s worth waiting until November 3rd and trying it out in stores before you get something from Samsung, or opt for an iPad.

Read: Nexus 9 Release Date Breakdown

Google’s past releases have not been extremely smooth When it comes to availability and stock, but that was much better with the release of the Nexus 7 in 2013. This year though, things are looking even better as Google has pre-orders available from Amazon, Best Buy, the Google Play Store, and others are coming soon.

The Nexus 9 Should Be shipping on the 3rd of November, in stores, and we’re hearing plenty of stock will be available to make this Google’s biggest and best Android Nexus tablet launch to date. It’s that, or get the Fire HDX right now with free 2-day Prime shipping.

Software

We’re not going to dive in to the software too much, because the final version of Android 5.0 is not yet available, and the first product to run it will be the Nexus once it arrives 9 November 3rd. That being said, it runs the absolute latest version of Android right from Google. It’s stock Android, supports 64-bit computing, and is an entirely redesigned and fresh new look full of life, colors, and animations.

The Kindle Fire HDX runs the new Fire OS 4.0 interface, Which is Android 4.4 underneath, but you’d never guess it runs Android. It looks like an Amazon product, and is geared towards content, Mainly content from Amazon. Whether That Be books, music, movies, or buying stuff from Amazon.com

Updates will not come as often do and the interface is not the best, but many enjoy the simple, bold, and in your face easy to use interface. Especially kids.

Specs

While the specs are not all that important these days, it is something Buyers Consider. Both tablets are extremely fast, fluid, and powerful. They have the latest technology and will play apps, games, or stream movies for hours on end. Here’s the numbers for Those interested.

Nexus 9 Specs

As you can see they both actually stack up quite nicely against one another. From the screen size and resolution, cameras, audio output and even the price. These are two of the best tablets available in 2014, and the price is extremely competitive.

Price

This brings us to our next topic, price. Buying a new tablet is not cheap, unless, you’re getting a Nexus. That was the assumption over the past few years, but not this time. The original Nexus 7 was $ 199 and Became an instant hit, even if that was only 8GB of storage. The 2013 model was $ 229 for the 16GB model and $ 269 for the 32GB variant.

The Nexus 9 comes in three variants, as well as three colors too. Black, White, and Sand Gold. So how much?

Google’s Nexus 9 will be $ 399 for the 16GB model, $ 479 for the 32GB option, and $ 599 for the 32GB 4G LTE flavor. There is no microSD slot to expand storage, and there’s no 64 or 128GB option available. This is not cheap, but still undercuts the bigger iPad Air and is the same price as Apple’s smaller iPad Mini option.

The Kindle Fire HDX though, is priced about the same. The 16GB model is $ 399 (on sale for $ 394), or can be bought for $ 379 with Amazon ads on the lockscreen. Yes, that’s awful, and not worth the small savings. Then $ 449 for 32GB, and $ 499 for the 64GB option. If you need more storage of the Kindle Fire HDX is the best route.

Final Thoughts

The Nexus 9 is set to be Google’s best tablet to date, and small end up being one of the best tablets of 2014. It has a lot to offer, and Should Be in the running for any tablet buyer this holiday season.

HTC and Google are putting the tablet makers in the Android space on notice with the Nexus 9, and aiming Directly at Apple’s iPad Mini lineup and the new air all at the same time. It’s a complete package with everything a tablet buyer wants and needs, priced fair, and Should be a great device.

That all said, the Kindle Fire HDX Delivers plenty of the same, geared at content , has a kids mode, and 24/7 tech support. There’s a lot to love from both tablets, but in the end the choice is yours. We’ll report back with more details after our hands-on experience and first impressions of the moment the Nexus 9 it arrives.

Owners Kindle readers so far unable to use the subscription … – naTemat

Book Box – This offer Legimi for the Kindle reader users Fig. The Verge / youtube.com

Legimi is a Polish company that offers its customers a favor, so far, remarkable – subscription allows you to read e-books without limit at one-month charge. To date, the subscription service that users could enjoy some tablets and readers. Beyond the pale were the owners of the most popular device for reading books, or Kindle. Legimi is, however, and for them the subscription offer.

Book Box – so called from Legimi subscription service, which will benefit users of Amazon’s Kindle reader. At the beginning, the monthly fee will be 13.99, then increase to 14.99, but the most loyal customers again after half a year they return to the starting point and pay as much as at the beginning.

What receives for those less than 15 zł? Subscription access to a catalog of 30 electronic books – both new and others willing to read e-books. Every month in the catalog you will find new items. Among them, select one title that, as is the case in virtual bookstores, simply pulls on your device. This may be the Kindle, but also any other equipment. Everything is done on the website Legimi.

At first glance they go such titles as “In the jungle of health” Beaty Pawlikowska, “centenarian, who jumped out the window and disappeared,” Jonas Jonasson, “Lost Girl” by Gillian Flynn “The Beatles” Hunter Davies, “Between the crazy” Marcin Meller, “sex bomb communist” Christopher Tomasiak, “Betrayal” Paulo Coelho and “How I Unleashed tape scandal” Peter Nisztora.

With Book Box also starts another The new service from Legimi – SubClub.pl. Subscription subscription on the Kindle ordered was there, but realizes Legimi through the website.

– SubClub.pl is a service that allows purchasing of subscription in the various product categories. By registering on the site you can join any number of clubs that are consistent with their interests and receive a monthly package-surprises with selected products in this category theme – explains the President Legimi, Nicholas Małaczyński.

The offer SubClub. en will, of course, all the existing services Legimi, with Book Box, inclusive, but also associated with organic food, spirits, sets for children and accessories for fishing. Prices of individual “boxes” range from dozen gold for e-books to nearly 130 zł for exclusive spirits. How announces Nicholas Małaczyński, the end of the year portfolio of products under this service will expand significantly.

Book Box is so much good offer, it is clear from the report Virtualo, the most common e-book price in a market the most popular category is 19,99 zł, and the average e-reader electronic book seems to approx. 600 zł year. Annual expenditure for Book Box is less than 170 dollars. On the other hand, on average, during the year e-book readers read 30 items, not 12, as it has in its latest offer Legimi.

This does not change the fact that this service is for now the solution near any subscription e-bookowemu dostępnemu on the Kindle. The service is similar to the traditional subscription Legimi offers Amazon, but so far there’s no sign on it that the Kindle Unlimited went over the river. Jeff Bezos Company does not intend to allow other operators to enter into your backyard, so Legimi invented a way to offer their services on the Kindle reader.

Voyage Kindle Review: Amazon’s e-reader is too good to be Merely a Paperwhite 2 – PCWorld

The Kindle Voyage ? The name makes no sense, but I understand why Amazon did not call its latest e-reader the Paperwhite 2. It’s good enough to deserve a name all its own.

The Kindle Voyage is stuffed with new features and meaningful improvements over the Paperwhite. I’ll cover the most important ones first. The Voyage’s screen resolution Delivers higher than the Paperwhite: 300 pixels per inch. The Paperwhite’s 221-ppi display looks very good, but you can discern jagged edges in fonts if you look closely. With the Voyage, you can not see jaggies even with the aid of a magnifying glass.

 Amazon Voyage Michael Brown

The jaggies are a thing of the past, thanks to the display’s Voyage resolution of 300 pixels per inch.

The Paperwhite Introduced a front light that made its E-Ink display readable under any lighting conditions. The Voyage keeps this feature but adds a light sensor adjusts automatically box That the brightness in response to the level of ambient light. This not only eliminates the need is to adjust the brightness every time you start reading, it tweaks Should Increase the Voyage’s battery life. Enable the “nightlight” feature, and the screen brightness will dim Gradually as your eyes adjust to a darkened room.

Smooth as glass

For me, the next biggest improvement is the texture of the Voyager’s glass. That might seem like an odd thing to put so high on a letter of improvements, but the Paperwhite’s glass has this grainy, almost pebbly texture That literally rubs me the wrong way. I viscerally dislike the way it feels under my thumb or fingertip when I stroke the glass to turn a page or touch the screen to call up a menu or a definition. It just feels weird, even if it was not bad enough to drive me back to my first-gen Kindle.

The Paperwhite still Delivers the better price-to-performance ratio

The Voyage’s glass is as smooth as the glass on any laptop or smartphone I’ve used, and there’s no transition Between the bezel and the display. And the Voyage’s new page-turn buttons are just as important as the texture of its glass. Amazon Embedded four surface-mount buttons (Amazon calls them PagePress sensors) on the right and left bezels That make turning pages even Easier: A slight squeeze on the vertical lines on either side of the bezel advance pages, and the same action on the dots Those lines above the reverse pages.

This Means you can hold the Voyage in your left or right hand, and the buttons work even When The e-reader is in its case (more on That later). In Addition to the obvious visual cue of the page refreshing, the Voyage Provides a bit of haptic feedback When you’ve applied enough pressure is a page turn effect. You can fine-tune the amount of pressure needed to activate page turns, too.

 Amazon Voyage Michael Brown

The screen on the Voyage (left) is brighter and whiter than the one on the Paperwhite (right).

For me, the buttons are a big improvement over stroking or tapping the glass (Those page-turn methods are Retained in the new Kindle). I grip my Paperwhite with four fingers on the back and my thumb in front, so I turn pages by stroking the glass with my thumb. A mild case of arthritis in the base of my thumb joints renders this motion not exactly painful, but uncomfortable enough to be distracting. I can squeeze the page-forward button without moving my thumb at all, and I need to slide it up just about an inch to reach the less-frequently used page-back buttons.

One thing I should point out, Especially for people like me who do not take enough time to read a user manual: You need to press down slightly on the buttons to make them work. Tapping, as you might do with the trackpad on your laptop will not work-at least not reliably.

Thinner and lighter, but only a little

Kindle Voyage Michael Brown

Here’s how the Voyage Origami cover works.

Compared to the Paperwhite, the Kindle is slightly thinner Voyage (0.30 inches versus 0.36 inches) and slightly lighter (6.3 ounces versus 7.3 ounces). Amazon moved the power button to the back of the device, Which makes it Easier to find and manipulate than the tiny button that’s on the bottom of the Paperwhite. It still relies on a micro USB cord for charging, and Amazon still includes a USB cable but ImageSlideShow requires you to buy the power adapter Separately.

I do not know how much profit he makes the Amazon Kindle Voyage but they must be making a killing on protective covers at $ 45 a pop ($ 60 if you want leather). The cover is brilliant, though, consisting of a tray with strong magnets That hold the Voyage it in a very tight grip (the e-reader’s rear panel is fabricated from magnesium), and a thick flap That protects its display.

A set of strong magnets in the flap holds it securely to the Voyage’s front bezel When closed, and that the magnesium Back When you flip it over the top to read. Push up in the middle of the bottom edge of the flap, and it folds origami style to make a prop-stand for reading. That’s a whole lot better than leaning it against a coffee cup.

 Kindle Voyage Michael Brown

The ingenious, but pricey Voyage “Origami” cover can be folded into an easel for easy hands-free reading on a table top.

Cover When the display you’re done reading, and the ambient light sensor immediately Allows puts the voyage into sleep mode. Open it back up, and the device comes fully back to life before you’ve completed the motion. There’s really never any need to push the power button. Third parties are offering less-expensive covers, which I have not reviewed, and I imagine the price of Amazon’s covers will drop as the Voyage’s newness wears off (although that could accommodate be a while. This review was written on October 23, and Amazon’s website indicates it will not have units in stock until November 24).

Should you buy them?

The only other significant_coeff_flag criticism I can muster for the Kindle Voyage is a gripe about its price tag. Comparing versions with Amazon’s “Special Offers” (That pop up ads when you’re not reading), the delta Between the $ 79 Kindle and the $ 119 Kindle Paperwhite is $ 40. You’ll pay twice the premium That is a move from the Paperwhite to the $ 199 Voyage. It costs an additional $ 20 to Eliminate the ads, and a cool $ 70 to get 3G connectivity in Addition is a Wi-Fi network.

I’ve always scoffed at the idea of paying so much more to get 3G connectivity; but now that I’ve experienced it with the Voyage, it’s pretty easy to want. Getting rid of the ads and Including 3G elevates the price of a voyage all the way to $ 289 you can buy a 7-inch Kindle Fire HDX for $ 179, but I’m a bit of a purist When it comes it reading. I want the most book-like experience I can get. The Paperwhite comes very close, but the schedule knocks it out of the park.

Having said That, I think the Paperwhite still Delivers the better price-to-performance ratio both for someone buying an e-reader for the first time, and for someone upgrading from a stock Kindle. The Voyage is the best e-reader on the market, but Amazon has hung a price tag commensurate with That position.

New Amazon Kindle is a Voyage into eReader luxury – USA TODAY

Personal Technology columnist Ed Baig Kindle goes hands on with the new Kindle e-reader Voyage.

NEW YORK – Ah, the many ways you can immerse yourself in a best-seller nowadays: on tablets, smartphones, and computers.

That’s why it’s sometimes easy to overlook what remains the best place to consume dry a book – notwithstanding its printed forms. I’m speaking of the dedicated electronic reader space, long dominated by Amazon’s Kindles.

Happily, Amazon is still paying close attention to its bread-and-button Kindles, even as it pushes harder into making Broader purpose tablets and phones. The winner is anyone who loves to read.

Exhibit A arrives with the brand new Kindle Voyage, the seventh-generation of the venerable franchise Kindle. It’s simply the best dedicated e-reader money can buy, assuming That Is That you have lots of money.

Indeed, the Kindle Voyage costs $ 199 (with ads) for a Wi-Fi only model, compared with $ 119 for what used to be the top-of-the-line Kindle Paperwhite. Add 3G-cellular connectivity and the Voyage price climbs with ads is $ 269.

Meantime, a new entry level Kindle, Which unlike its higher priced siblings does not come with a light to let you read in the dark, costs a mere $ 79 Heck, Voyage is even priced lower than all of the smaller-screen, high-definition multimedia color tablets That Fire Amazon sells.

So, is this luxury eBooks voyage worth taking ? Apparently a lot of people think so – last I checked, Amazon will not have Voyage in stock until late November.

I agree, with the qualifier that I also believe folks will be perfectly satisfied with Paperwhite, still a stud eReader in its own right. The budget $ 79 Kindle is nothing to scoff at, either.

None of the Kindles Earlier though quite match up to the job Voyage does of replicating the real paper experience on an electronic display. In techie terms, Voyage has a 6-inch grayscale 300 ppi or pixels per inch display, and boasts twice the number of pixels than are on the Paperwhite display, Which is also very good. The takeaway is this: text on Voyage is dark, crisp and easily readable. The display is glare-free.

Moreover, at 0.3-inches, Voyage is Amazon’s thinnest Kindle to date, still a ways to go before it as thin as paper, of course, but edging a bit closer. It weighs 6.3 ounces-(6.6-ounces for the Wi-Fi + 3G model), making it about an ounce lighter than Paperwhite. You can comfortably hold it with one hand.

As on other models, you can tap or swipe on the touchscreen to turn pages. But now you can also gently apply pressure against the bezel on either side of the display to turn a page and as it does you detect subtle haptic feedback. You can adjust the level of That haptic response and also the amount of pressure required to turn a page. It’s nice to have this added option but it does take getting used to and I just as often changed pages the old way.

One excellent new benefit comes with an adaptive front light That automatically box alters the brightness on the display to fit the environment in Which you are reading. If you’re in the dark, you can enable a feature That will gradually reduce the screen brightness over time, that match the way your eyes works.

In most other ways, the new Kindle is like its lower -priced siblings. The battery can last weeks. It can hold thousands of books. You can shop an online bookstore with Kindle millions of titles, and fetch the books you choose to buy in a minute or less. You can borrow books from the library and lend others, albeit under restrictions. And you can take and share notes.

Among other nice features across the Kindle line is Vocabulary Builder, and lists of all the words you look up in the dictionary. Amazon will be adding a “Word Wise” That feature small appeal to young readers or people learning Angielski as a second language. In select books, simple short definitions of challenging words will Appear just above Those difficult words. For example, in tiny type just above the word “abnormal” is the simple explanation “not normal.”

Also in the coming soon category is a family library feature That will let you access your Kindle books from your spouse’s Amazon account.

If money is no object, the Kindle Voyage is a great way to devour a bestseller. But if you’re operating under tight financial constraints and the lower priced Kindle can still result in a happy ending.

The bottom line

Amazon Kindle Voyage

www.amazon.com, $ 199 for the Wi-Fi only model; $ 269 for the Wi-Fi + 3G model. Add $ 20 for ad-free versions.

Pro. Thin, light, high-resolution display with sharp readable text. Adaptive light, excellent battery life, multiple page turning methods.

Con. big premium over other Kindle models. Currently out of stock.

Amazon Kindle Voyage – PC Magazine

Amazon’s various Kindles have long been the most popular ebook readers on the market, but that does not mean they have always been the best from a technology perspective. Barnes & amp; Noble beat Amazon to the punch with a front light, and Kobo eclipsed the company in screen resolution. The Kindle Voyage changes that. Amazon’s latest ebook reader is not only the best one it has ever made, it’s the best ebook reader currently available. It has a lovely, thin design with an incredibly sharp display and a useful adaptive front light, not to mention Amazon’s excellent ebook store. That said, I’m still not sure this is enough to warrant the $ 199 price tag when you can pick up our Editors’ Choice, the Kindle Paperwhite, for nearly half That amount.

Design and Display
At a glance, the Voyage does not look all that different from the Paperwhite or the newly refreshed touch-screen Kindle , in the sense That all three share the same general size and form factor. Look closer, though, and lots of important changes emerge. The Voyage Measures 6.4 by 4.5 by 0.30 inches (HWD) and weighs 6.3 ounces (or 6.6 ounces for the 3G model), making it the thinnest, Lightest Kindle there is. There’s less bezel all around, and the screen has been changed from a plastic glass, making the front of the reader completely flush, rather than slightly dipped like on the other models.

The display uses scratch-resistant glass, and has been micro-etched a diffuse light, so you can read outside without any glare. The etching pattern supposedly makes the glass feel more like paper, but I think you get a better sense of this using the Kindle Paperwhite Kindle or base.

The Voyage uses a brand-new Paperwhite display, Which has a much higher resolution than any other Kindle; it features 300 pixels per inch, Which looks absolutely fantastic. Text is incredibly sharp, no matter the font size, and images look great, so comics really pop (though keep in mind you’re still working with a black-and-white E Ink screen). For comparison, the Kobo Aura H2O and Aura HD feature 265 pixels per inch . They all look nearly as good when held side by side, but when you get super-close, everything on the Voyage remains uniformly crisp, while the Auras can show just the Slightest hint of pixelation. The Voyage is the closest you can get to reading an actual book.

In Addition to the higher resolution, the Voyage is noticeably brighter than the Paperwhite (up to 39 percent), thanks to a new front light. Better yet, the light is adaptive, so if you select the Auto Brightness setting, it will adjust automatically box based on the light around you. I love this feature. I’ve been using the first-generation Paperwhite since it came out, and I mostly tend to read on the subway and in coffee shops, Which have vastly different lighting scenarios. I rarely adjust the lighting on my Paperwhite to compensate for this, and I did not realize what a difference it makes until I started using the Voyage. No matter where you use it, the lighting is pretty much perfect.

Another cool feature Is That Amazon Claims the brightness is tuned it match the way the eye responds that darkness. So if you’re reading in the dark, you’ll need a brighter light at first than you will after reading for 30 minutes, so the light will slowly turn down over time. I’m slightly Concerned That constantly using a light sensor will impact battery life, but then again, you might ultimately wind up using less lighting.

Aside from the glass front panel, the Voyage is made of solid magnesium, with a soft-touch finish reminiscent of the Paperwhite, Which gives it a premium, classy feel (though it is not waterproof like the Kobo Aura H2O) . The power port is still on the bottom, but I’m not too fond of the Decision to move the Power button to the back of the reader. It’s hard to find, and it renders any isnt Likely case you were hoping that reuse incompatible.

If you’re a real diehard Kindle, and have not upgraded to a touch-screen model for the lack of physical buttons Page, rejoice. The Voyage features PagePress, Which is basically Amazon’s fancy name for Page buttons on either side of the display. I’ll focus on this feature more in the Reading section on the next page.

Features
The Voyage comes with a black USB cable, but no AC adapter. Amazon Claims up to six weeks of battery life based on half an hour of reading per day with wireless off and the light set is 10 That’s two weeks more than the Kindle and two weeks less than the Paperwhite, all of Which have plenty of time for the average reader.

The Voyage hooks into 802.11b / g / n networks, and a 3G cellular option is still available for an additional $ 70 extra. It comes with 4GB of storage-the same as the other two Kindles now-which should be good for over 2,000 books. Amazon also stores your purchases in the cloud, so you can retrieve content whenever you’d like, and view it on other devices. Unfortunately, even on the high-end Voyage there’s no memory card slot, so there’s no way to expand storage. It also makes it a bit more challenging this Sideload additional files.

For file support, the Voyage can handle Amazon’s own Kindle format (AZW and AZW3), along with DOC, DOCX, HTML, MOBI, PDF, and TXT files. There’s still no support for ePub files, Which could make it difficult to borrow books from public libraries (though Prime users can borrow Certain books for free from Amazon.)

Amazon Kindle Voyage, and High-End E-Reader That Beats hardcovers – New York Times (blog)

Photo
The Voyage, Which has a display That is on par with the high-resolution displays now found on most of our other mobile devices, is Amazon’s thinnest Kindle. Credit

Amazon’s Kindle is a tech-industry miracle. That sounds over-the-top; it’s not.

In 2007, when the company first unveiled its e-reader, the device was an expensive ugly duckling Whose future looked marginal at best . The first Kindle, Which sold for $ 400 and was made by a company That had no track record in hardware, had a lot to overcome: the reluctance of the book industry to change its business model, the sentimentality of readers for the printed book, and its egregious industrial design, which looked like the product of the Soviet space program.

Worst of all, the Kindle was a dedicated machine. Its only purpose was to let you read books that you ‘purchased from Amazon’s online store. In the age of smartphones and apps, when a single phone does just about everything, most dedicated devices have had a rough ride. Sales of snapshot cameras and digital have crashed because Their functions were eaten by phones.

But not the Kindle. Amazon’s e-reader has not Merely survived, but thrived, thanks to a single-minded focus on the needs of obsessive readers. Each year the Amazon slightly improved the Kindle’s prices, hardware and software, making it more competitive with print, and roiling the publishing industry in the process.

Now, with its newest Kindle, the Voyage, Amazon is refining its e-reader once more. The Voyage’s main trick is a high-resolution display That mimics the look of a printed page. Text on its screen Appears at a resolution of 300 pixels an inch, Which is on par with the high-resolution displays now found on most of our other mobile devices.

Compared with previous Kindles, text on the Kindle Voyage Appears both sharper and in starker relief against the background. Graphics, like charts and graphs, look just as clear as they do in any black-and-white book.

The effect is beguiling. If you look at the new Kindle for any stretch of time, you do not just forget that you ‘re reading an e-book; you forget that you ‘re using any kind of electronic device at all.

Amazon says the Voyage offers a better approximation of print than has ever been available on an e-reader, but for me, it’s far better than that. It offers the visual clarity of printed text with the flexibility of an electronic device.

Given That combination, the Voyage functions as something like the executioner of The trusty old hardcover. Until recently, there were only two remaining reasons to hang on this books – either you just could not get on board with the way and looked Kindle page, or you were suspicious of Amazon’s power and larger motives in the publishing industry, and you saw the printed book as the only bulwark against its overreach.

The first reason is now gone. The Voyage, Which at $ 199 and up is Amazon’s most expensive Kindle, does not look just like the printed page. Like other Kindles, it does things the printed page can not do.

Reading a long tome (say the “Game of Thrones” series) and you want to keep track of the characters? X-Ray, a feature built into most Kindle books, shows you a handy pop-up guide of every person you encounter. Need to look up a word? Just tap on it. Want to flip back and forth between footnotes and the main text? It’s just a matter of tapping; reading David Foster Wallace’s “Infinite Jest” on a Kindle is not the workout it is in print.

The Voyage is Amazon’s thinnest Kindle, but That advantage I found to be of little significance; Amazon’s other recent Kindles have also been very thin.

The Voyage also includes a new way to turn pages built into the plastic border of the device, right under where you’d rest your thumbs while holding it. This turn, you slightly pinch with either thumb; on other Kindles, you had to lift your finger and tap the screen. (You can also turn that way on the Voyage.) I found this method to be also only slightly helpful, because turning pages on other Kindles really was not much of a hassle to begin with.

So the only real reason to chose the Voyage over the other Kindles – the Paperwhite, Which goes for $ 119, and the entry-level reader, Which is $ 69 but does not have a light – is its high-contrast display. For me, the Voyage’s display justifies the price. If you read often, you’ll want a high-quality screen, and this is one you’ll appreciate every single time you read.

Kristijan Lucic Staff Writer

I’ve always been interested in technology but when I got my first Android phone years ago I was hooked. Mobile technology has been my first priority ever since. I’m currently using a Nexus 4 and 7 (2012), I guess you can say I’m an Android purist. Other than technology I also enjoy football, movies and tv shows along with socializing with my friends and family.

Amazon’s Kindle Fire Will Include One of the Best Features of Apple’s iOS 8 – The Motley Fool

Last month, Amazon ( NASDAQ: AMZN ) Announced several new models of its Kindle Fire tablet, Including the $ 99 6-inch Kindle Fire HD and an updated version of its full-size, the Kindle Fire HDX. Both tablets ship with the latest version of Amazon’s operating system: Fire OS 4, “Sangria.”

Sangria adds several new features that Amazon’s tablets, Including, most notably, “Family Library” – families with multiple Kindle devices will be able share some of Their digital purchases among themselves. Though small it seem like a small change, it was a Necessary they – the latest version of Apple ‘s ( NASDAQ: AAPL ) mobile operating system iOS 8, offers similar functionality.

Amazon challenges Apple
Back in June, at its Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple Introduced Family Sharing – a new feature included in iOS 8 At the time, I noted Sharing Family That Appeared to be a direct challenge to Amazon’s digital goods business, particularly its digital books business – the ability to share digital purchases with family members stood out as a key advantage: Buyers – who have otherwise chosen small and Kindle digital book from Amazon – it could be enticed buy an iBook from Apple instead.

But Amazon has quickly fired back, neutralizing whatever small advantage Apple have had. With Family Library, Amazon customers will be able to share digital Their purchases across as many as six linked accounts.

Family Library should help Amazon Maintain its dominant market position in digital books. Apple has emerged as a Competent rival, but Amazon still leads, with an estimated market share of around 60%.

Library Family vs. Family Sharing
Nevertheless, Amazon’s Family Library is not perfect, and Apple’s Family Sharing has a few advantages With over Amazon’s alternative when it comes to other forms of media. Amazon’s Family Library works with digital books, audio books, apps, and Prime Instant Video, but it will not work for purchased movies, TV shows, or songs. Apple’s Family Sharing, in contrast, offers All These things and more, Including the ability to see family members’ current geographic locations.

That said, Apple’s Family Sharing requires all members of a given family to use the Apple-made products, and Relatively high entry barrier is. Amazon’s Family Library, in contrast, is far more flexible: Amazon would probably prefer its customers own its Kindle Fires, but if they do not, it’s not an issue, as Amazon’s Family Sharing feature is slated to arrive on Amazon’s mobile apps, Including its Kindle app for Apple’s iOS, later this month.

Two different goals
In an interview with Charlie Rose last month, Apple’s CEO Tim Cook downplayed his company’s rivalry with Amazon, instead citing Google as Apple’s chief competition. Amazon apr not be Apple’s primary competitor, but when it comes to digital goods, they certainly compete for sales – Family Sharing and Family Library serving as the latest example.

At the same time, the two systems highlight the relative differences between the firms: Whereas Apple is trying to entice customers that buy its gadgets, Amazon is looking to cultivate additional sales of its digital goods.

The prospect of shared iTunes app and media purchases, as well as geographic location and parental controls, could keep entire families loyal to Apple’s product line, choosing Apple-made mobile devices over alternatives. Amazon apr have been caught in the crossfire, losing digital book sales to Apple in the event That families looked to take advantage of this new feature, but Family Library could the ensure that does not happen.

Family Library is not a perfect retort – the lack of music sharing will not help Amazon capture any iTunes loyal customers – but seems more than good enough to keep Amazon’s Kindle isnt loyal customers.

Apple Watch Revealed: The real winner is inside
Apple recently revealed the product of its secret-development “dream team” – Apple Watch. The secret is out, and some early viewers are claiming its everyday impact could trump the iPod, iPhone, and the iPad. In fact, ABI Research Predicts 485 million of this type of device will be sold per year. But one small company makes Apple’s gadget possible. And its stock price has nearly unlimited room to run for early in-the-know investors. To be one of them, and see where the real money is to be made, just click here

Two of the UK’s biggest publishers are withholding books from Amazon’s new subscription service.

“Kindle Unlimited” costs £ 7.99 per month, but readers will not get dry books as The Lord of the Rings, Agatha Christies, or Gillian Flynn’s bestseller “Gone Girl”.

Amazon says more than 700,000 books are accessible through the service.

Penguin Random House and HarperCollins told Radio 4′s You & amp; Yours Their books will not be available.

Described as a “Netflix for e-books”, the set fee Allows Unlimited Kindle users is access 10 books at a time.

Amazon hosts over three million books, newspapers and magazines – but less than a quarter can be downloaded using the service.

Publishers already have Agreements in place with Amazon Which limit the degree that Which the company can discount Their titles.

Avid reader Maxine Alexander from Morecambe said: “Kindle Unlimited gives the impression you can have whatever you want for £ 7.99 a month.

“But when I looked for various well known authors like Peter James and Agatha Christie, they did not have any.

“Morecambe Library has more stuff that I would want to read.”

Kindle Unlimited was launched in the UK in September, after widespread speculation.

Liz Thomson the editor of Book Brunch, a publishing trade magazine explained: “The big publishers like HarperCollins Which hold the Agatha Christie and JRR Tolkien estates are not included.
