Oasis’s first waterproof model Kindle Onet.pl

Kobo and a few other manufacturers of electronic devices reading books, has in its range of models to withstand flooding. Contrary to popular belief, this is a very useful feature, as often stated in the tea or coffee and sometimes in the bath. So, there is a risk of damage to delicate devices.

the Water was still deadly for the equipment of the family the Kindle, because Amazon believed that his products do not need such protection. The company, however, changed his mind and showed the reader Oasis, which is the first model Kindle, fitted in a waterproof case. It is, in principle, the new version of the dictionary reader from last year, which was equipped with protection against ingress of liquid. The device complies with IPX8, which means it can be fully submerged in water and spend up to 60 minutes at a depth up to 2 meters.

the Product has a 7-inch screen with a pixel density of 300 PPI and a high level of brightness. Also the light sensor, which adjusts screen brightness in light intensity. The reader also has aluminum whistle strengthen the body and larger battery.

Selling Kindle Oasis will start from 31 October and the equipment will cost $ 299.

Reboot Your Kindle Once In a While – Lifehacker

Is your Kindle feeling sluggish? Does it seems like it takes a little longer to change the page, then it used to? That doesn’t mean there’s some technical problem. It means it’s time to reboot it.

Anyone who has ever used a computer is well aware of the "turn it off and back on again," IT’s a joke, but a number of people have told me they’re thinking about buying a new Kindle because theirs is getting "slow." It seems stupid that even mention this because it should be common, but Amazon tucks the restart option so deep into the menus that it’s a troubleshooting tip worth mentioning.

So, the next time your Kindle feels a little slow, whether that’s taking forever to wake up or the pages seem to flip a little sluggish, restart it. From the Home menu, click Menu, then Settings. From the Settings Menu, tap Menu again, then tap Restart.

Kindle for PC gains text-to-speech (but makes Stripping DRM harder) – Liliputing

Amazon has released a new version of its Kindle for PC software that allows you to read eBooks on a computer running Windows 7 or later.

Kindle for PC version 1.19.2 includes typesetting enhancements, search improvements, and a text-to-speech feature which allows the app to read some books aloud to you.

But there is at least one down side: users who like to strip the DRM from Kindle eBooks might have to jump through a few more hoops to do so after updating to the latest version of Kindle for PC.

Amazon’s Kindle eBooks include DRM software that’s supposed to prevent you from reading them in a device that’s not tied to your Amazon account. But there are tools that let you strip the DRM so that you can read on any device and not worry that Amazon will delete an eBook you’ve purchased from your account.

Right now the simplest method for Stripping DRM from Kindle (or NOOK or Kobo) books is install the Calibre eBook management utility and load the latest version of Apprentice Alf’s DRM Removal Tool as a plugin. Then when you import a book with DRM into your Calibre library, the plugin goes to work and removes the DRM, allowing you to save your books in a variety of formats.

That still works… except that if you want to strip the DRM from a Kindle eBook it needs to be in the AZW file format. But the new Kindle for PC app only downloads of eBooks in the newer KFX format (because of those new typesetting features).

So instead of downloading eBooks with the Amazon Kindle for PC software and then dragging and dropping them to Calibre, you’ll need to download the AZW versions of your purchased books from the Amazon.com/myk website. It’s not clear if you’ll be able to do that forever though.

If you want to hang onto Kindle for PC version 1.17 for now, you might want to go into the program’s settings and disable automatic updates.

One thing I should point out: while some people strip the DRM in order to maintain control over digital items they’ve paid for others to use tools of this sort for piracy.

It is illegal in many regions to distribute the book (or other digital media) which have had their DRM…. and in some parts of the world, it may be illegal to strip the DRM on books even if you only plan to save them for your personal collection.

Device for reading electronic books – the textbook for shopping computer World

device for Reading electronic books (e-books) is a great device and a great gift for people who regularly read and travel a lot. Helps easy to read not only at home but on the go. The main advantages of reading e-books is their compact size, light weight, matte screen of e-paper, easy for the eyes and niegenerujący harmful reflections of light, and long battery life.

On the market we will find dozens of models of devices for reading electronic books that are offered at the price from 300 to 1500 rubles. Which one to choose? Below we present the main parameters of the reading to which you should pay special attention.

Size, type and resolution of your screen

recommended for reading electronic books must have the display made of electronic paper. It provides for experiences that are close to the classic book page and does not cause much eye strain as reading on the screen of the smartphone or tablet.

readers are used, as a rule, two types of screens, Sr., called E Ink Pearl or newer, and better, called E Ink Carta. If we have a choice of such devices, of course, it is better to choose the model gives a slightly better white e-paper Carta.

the Most popular reader offers currently screen size with a diagonal of 6 inches. However, it is also the device a little more – 8-and even 10-inch. the Screen a diagonal of 6 inches-a seemingly small, but quite for comfortable reading of books and allows you to maintain a very compact size of the entire device. Each reader, of course, we are in a fairly wide range to adjust the size of the displayed font.

If you have good eyesight or do you plan to make frequent use of electronic publications with the illustrations, you should pay additional attention to the screen resolution. The best readers offer a picture of exactly 300 ppi (pixels per inch), a weaker-about 200 ppi, but we still can still buy products on pixel density at 170 ppi. Even this last value, however, is not evil to read conventional books. Today it is very popular and increasingly used by older readers Amazon Kindle 4 & 5 with 6-inch screen E-Ink Pearl on the accuracy of the 167 dpi (800 x 600 pixels).

Lighting

the Older and lower-class readers do not have the additional screen illumination, which means that in their case, at very low light reading books can be a little comfortable. To fix this, you can use the additional LED light bulbs attached to the reader case or book case with built-in lighting. The popularity and development of reading have led, however, to creating devices with built-in doświetleniem of the screen. Thanks to him the image on the screen is simply readable even in the complete absence of lighting in the area, but also more contrast in the mode of daily reading. You should put on the device doświetlanym screen.

Touch screen

Classic readers can be maintained only by using the buttons on their body. Typically, this solution is convenient and sufficient, but in the era of smartphones and tablets touch screen feature also came to read books. Both methods of navigation have their supporters and opponents – as well as touch smartphones, so before buying you should check both solutions, or gently ask the future owner about his reader’s sympathy. Touch reader fit, but it’s best if we often make any notes related to czytanymi books or documents. The physical buttons are, and plus, when it is often said gloves. The latter is more expensive, the consent of all readers – there are touch screen and navigation buttons.

battery life

for Reading e-books are devices that require relatively rare charge. Of course, it depends on how often and how long we reader and built-in communication module (Wi-Fi/3G), but in the case of popular e-readers Amazon Kindle, mainly charging is required every two weeks. This performance was achieved thanks to the use of screens made of electronic paper, which consumes energy only when changing the displayed content, i.e. while scrolling the pages of a book. Because of this, the operation time of reader offers are often not in days, but it expresses the number of pages viewed on a single charge.

Supported ebook formats

There are several formats that allows you to save text, such as with embedded illustrations. In the world of computers is ruled by the text files with MS Word, and PDFs. On the market of e-readers, are leading the other two formats – EPUB (open) and MOBI (mainly used readers Amazon). It is in these two standards most often encountered in shops, e-publishing and, at least one of them must support the intended reader.

it is also Worth to our readers served DRM (usually with Adobe DRM, and Amazon uses a proprietary Amazon DRM) that is required sometimes, in connection with the copyright protection.

Reader with or without advertising?

Located in the Amazon e-readers, type in a little cheaper, publication advertising, and more – no ads. If we depends on the price, you can select the model with the ads on the devices for reading electronic books Kindle not Intrusive.

Wi-Fi or with 3G modem?

Readers are available in versions that support the Wi-Fi connection and a 3G modem. The latter functionality can be set to, for example, in the case of e-readers Amazon Kindle. Models with 3G allows for free downloading or purchase of books in many countries. If we travel a lot and buy books in the Amazon, then the Kindle 3G may be a good choice.

What operating system?

Readers may have their own operating system, such as the products of the company Amazon, or you can use Android. By choosing this second, besides, we access our accounts e-mail and a web browser that may not be the most important, but if we think about the use of the subscription, without limitation, a popular Russian store Legimi is reader Android is already mandatory.

Review Amazon Kindle 8 is a good ratio of price and quality – dobreprogramy

the Amazon Kindle is still incomparable pattern among readers of e-books, and this plain, simple reader, it again shows. This time I had the pleasure to read on the base model Kindle 8. generation. The reader is 389 dollars and he is worth every spent penny. From the more expensive models, distinguishes it more than the absence of illumination of the screen, everything else works fine.

Kindle 8 available in black and white. If you have no apparent reason to buy the white version, I recommend black. Tested by me white looks great for the first trip. Fortunately, it is easy to wash – just foam for cleaning computers.

in addition, the body of the reader is very durable, difficult to scratch or odgnieść. Scheduled another product for years. On the bottom is a power button, USB Jack and a discrete led indicator of charging, not there are so many things subject to destruction. The back was an embossed logo Amazonu, front, and we will find the traditional words “Kindle” is the only decoration. The design is great for functions of this device, because it is not distracting and lets you focus on the book.

r e k l a m a

Management Kindlem possible thanks to the touchscreen, which some time ago came with version Touch in elementary school. We have here a 6-inch screen E Ink Pearl with a resolution of 800×600, which gives a ppi of 176. It’s not the resolution is impressive, but gives a very good comfort read. The screen displays 16 shades of gray, so the comics I don’t recommend. It should here also be noted that the screen works very well and is very quick to respond both on E-Ink. If we are talking about handling, the reader is quite hassle-free.

This model was equipped with 4 GB of internal memory and wi-fi 802.11 b/g/n. Battery lasts for several weeks of reading, and therefore has no backlight, the power consumption depends on software version and number of images. Charge from zero takes about 4 hours.

the size of the reader-160 mm × 115 mm × 9.1 mm, weighs 161 g. the Device is comfortable to hold with one hand even during long sessions with the book. Frame wide enough that your fingers do not touch the screen, and the invoice body gives a secure grip. For those looking for easy reading, and comfortable, but at an affordable price, is a great choice.

the Equipment is, however, less significant than the software capabilities. The Kindle readers still do not have Russian language, but in the integrated store Amazonu few Polish books and magazines, but it’s not a problem. On the Kindle to read books in formats AZW, TXT, MOBI, PDF, PRC, HTML and DOC(X), and some of them, of course, you can buy in Polish bookstores. Of course, you can still send a book email Amazon account (many bookstores will do this automatically if get address), to be automatically downloaded to your device for reading. Of course, you can traditionally use cable.

software Kindle was very well thought out and not cause any problems. When you first start you only have to look at the manual to familiarize yourself with zoning – clicking with the left hand, draws back his book is on the right side, at the top shows the setting at the bottom allows you to preview page thumbnails and navigation. Holding the word shows the definition from the dictionary, Bing translator and Wikipedia, if the reader has access to the Internet. The only thing that may lack is the ability to rotate the screen.

to Read on Kindle ” recommend, in particular, people who want to improve their English language. In the settings of the reader can include hints that allow you to enrich vocabulary. This is not new to the readers Amazonu, but it’s worth it to look at. Such a function in the reader for 399 rubles is a huge help in teaching, especially that from a store Amazonu you can earn some good books for free.

On books purchased in the store Amazonu you can also use the function of X-Ray that shows the appearance of characters and places in reading. Integration with Goodreads also works great. Based on previous likes will climb up the positions that we like and are well known classics, and then immediately redirects to the store Amazonu where you can buy them. Unfortunately, here again, turns out there is no Polish language and books in our language.

At the end a few words about the available accessories. Comes with the reader we get only the USB cable. Slim protective cover made of polyurethane is $ 29 in the store Amazonu in Poland is a rare commodity. Equipped with a magnet cover serving for closing and wybudzający Kindle, when you open the cover. Not enough for color substitutions of different materials. Unfortunately, when you can buy Kindle Paperwhite, not available, cover with a lamp, so that the choice in favor of the basic Kindle, you will have to reckon with the inability to read in the dark.

I’ll Admit that in the beginning the price of 389 rubles for this reader seemed to me disgusting, but quickly convinced myself of its value. ASUS fonepad 8 is polished and works reliably. Just worth its price.

Three Reasons Why the iPad won’t Kill Amazon’s Kindle – new York times ” (blog)

It may be suddenly fashionable to say so, but the new Apple iPad tablet won’t kill the Kindle from Amazon. Here are three reasons. My colleague, Nick Bilton, has weighed in on this topic from the opposite side. Please add your thoughts in the comments section below.

Kindle book is for lovers, and the iPad is not.

Sure, the Kindle’s potential market may have shrunk today, since the two-books-a-year folks will now choose the more versatile iPad.

But the Kindle (and other devices with E Ink screens) will continue to be the best device for lovers of long-form reading, period. (And they do love it; check the forums Kindle for the passion of Kindle owners.) The iPad’s backlit screen, higher price and more limited battery all make it a poorer choice for curling up with a novel.

Also, there’s the distraction factor. When you read a book, you just don’t want to have e-mail, Twitter and the ESPN Web site beckoning from the browser. The absence of those services on the Kindle — sure, it’s also a flaw — actually make it better for focused leisure reading.

Amazon will continue to improve on the Kindle.

Kindle with color? With a Pixel Qi screen? A Kindle tablet to rival the iPad? They indication that Amazon plans to continue releasing new Kindles in the months and years ahead comes from the Web site of its design division, Lab126, based in Cupertino, Calif. And count a whopping 46 new job postings on the Lab126 career board in the last two months alone.

The Kindle store will continue to thrive.

Amazon smartly separated its Kindle hardware division from its Kindle e-book store and has since released or announced Kindle apps for the iPhone, PC, Mac, and BlackBerry. Despite the fact that many consumers will now choose an iPad over a Kindle, Amazon will likely undercut Apple on e-book prices. (If publishers band together to withhold cheaper e-books from Amazon in favor of pricier ones on the Apple, there could be some legal issues — more on this later.)

Commenting on the Apple announcement today, an Amazon spokesman, drew Herdener, said this: "Customers can read and sync their Kindle books on the iPhone, iPod Touch, PCs, and soon BlackBerry, Mac and iPad. Kindle is purpose-built for reading. Weighing in at less than 0.64 pounds, Kindle fits comfortably in one hand for hours, has an E Ink display that is easy on the eyes even in bright daylight, two weeks of battery life, and 3G wireless with no monthly fees — all at a $ 259 price. Kindle editions of New York Times best sellers and most new releases are only $ 9.99."

Bottom line: books, music and movies — its worldwide media business — constitute half of Amazon.com s overall revenue. Jeff Bezos and Company have a huge stake in protecting what business as it inexorably shifts from analog atoms to digital bits.

Kindle — resuscitation, even at the start – dobreprogramy

the previous entry for the Kindle it’s been a long time, read many books, but few devices have passed through my hands.

Some devices failed to restore again, to live again to enjoy its content owners. I arrives for spare parts for another “transplants”.
however, Not always all so vividly, as it should be, and it so happens that in their hands I get a brick – which for the illumination of the LEDs shows no signs of working.

In small ranks, I recently decided to sell don’t need two motherboards in the first edition of the Kindle Paperwhite. Offer flew on Craigslist and a few hours later the Lord said to me from Central Poland that are interested in purchasing the drive and install it in his device.

immediately warned that motherboard does not work correctly with the screen, intended for second-generation Kindle Paperwhite – creating immediately after launch, error code on damaged battery and offer to contact customer support Amazonu.
the debate lasted several days, until finally I received an offer to one or two readers, of which one was to replace the disk, and the other to look because it works strangely battery life – almost impossible to use.
Friday – confirmation of sending a parcel, on Monday I pulled out of my course.
First thing, after what she threw in my eyes it’s one Kindle the display reports that information, please contact customer support Amazon, because it requires a repair.

First thing, after what she threw in my eyes it’s one Kindle the display reports that information, please contact customer support Amazon, because it requires a repair.

there is a silver lining, it became clear that reader when it is connected to the computer for a moment there, so was the hope that it will be possible to launch.

A New Kindle Fire, Just in Time for the Holiday Season – New York Times (blog)

The “X” in the Kindle Fire HDX is a reference to the screen’s clarity. It packs in 323 tiny dots per inch, making it sharper than high definition.Credit

If it’s October, that must mean the holiday buying season has begun — and that means Amazon will offer a new color tablet.

it’s the Kindle Fire HDX. It costs $ 230, and it’s terrific. The battery goes for about 11 hours, or 17 in a power-saving, reading-only mode. The stereo speakers sound great. The plastic case weighs less than the prior version and has narrower margins around the screen. There’s a mediocre camera on the front for video chatting (not on the back on the 7-inch model). The one big misfire you putting the power and volume keys on the back; you’ll spend the first week hitting the Off button by mistake while trying to turn it up the sound.

The X in "HDX" is a reference to the screen’s clarity. It packs in 323 tiny dots per inch, making it sharper than high definition, and making the iPad Mini”s 163 dots per inch look grainy.

The HDX”s screen really is spectacular, if infuriatingly reflective. The trouble is, you can see the new sharpness only when you’re looking at source material with resolution that high. The type in books and magazines looks razor-sharp, but most of the 150,000 TV shows and videos in Amazon’s catalog, don’t look any clearer. Movies are also the wrong shape for the screen; you see black bands above and below.

Although the Kindle is based on the Android operating system, Amazon has thoroughly disguised it.

The home screen still features a sliding horizontal "carousel" of everything you’ve had open recently — books, movies, music, apps. Below that carousel, you now see a traditional grid of icons, just as on other tablets. Good.

Parental controls are easy and effective. You can limit your kids' time each day or limit which items they can use, watch or read.

Amazon has started to bring its X-Ray trivia feature to movies and music. Some of the songs you buy from Amazon (a few thousand, apparently) now display scrolling lyrics. And watching a movie with the X-Ray panel open is great fun; it identifies the actors in the scene before you, their bios one tap away, and tells you the name of the song playing in the background.

The company says that in an upcoming software update, you’ll be able to fling the video to a PlayStation 3 or a Samsung TV, while continuing to read the X-Ray details on your Kindle Fire. That doesn’t fully compensate, however, for the loss of any other way to connect the Fire to a TV (the HDMI jack is gone).

Boldest and most stunning of all, though, is of Mayday: a button that places an instant, free video call to a 24-hour help technician. The agents can see your screen, but can’t see you. You can see the agents (in a tiny, 1-inch movable window), and accept their invitation to take control of your Kindle or draw with virtual highlighter pens around elements of the screen.

Mayday is amazing and truly practicality — but keep in mind that the HDX (the 7-inch and its $ 380 9-inch baby brother) won’t be for sale until later this month. Will there be enough of those video agents to go around, especially Christmas week?

Now, $ 230 is an excellent price for a tablet this fast, smooth and satisfying and this Amazon finally tablet includes a wall charger. It’s $ 30 more than last year’s model, but bargain hunters might be happy with the updated Kindle Fire HD, which is only $ 140 despite being, as a rep told me, "more performant" (I’m pretty sure that’s supposed to mean "faster").

But $ 230 also happens to be the price of Google’s Nexus 7 tablet, which is also fast, smooth and satisfying, and also has a 323-d.p.and. screen. On the Kindle, though, you see a full-screen ad every time you turn on the device; getting rid of them forever costs another $ 15. For another $ 50, you can buy a cover that attaches magnetically and folds in weird ways to act as a stand.

So which is the better deal?

Depends on what you’re looking for. The Nexus is a real tablet, with all of the flexibility and complexity that entails. The Kindle Fire is still clearly intended to show off the books, TV shows, music, and videos you’ve bought from Amazon.

It still doesn’t seem like a "real" tablet. There’s still no GPS navigation, no speech recognition, no to-do list or notes app. It doesn’t run standard Android apps, and can’t access the Google Play store that houses a million of them. About 100,000 apps have been tailored for the Fire, but lots of important ones are missing including Dropbox, SkyDrive and anything by Google.

That’s not a slam, either. The Kindle’s simplicity and dedication to its purpose has always been its primary virtue. Amazon should tread carefully; piling on features risks junking up this focused, efficient reader. Already, the company intends to add "enterprise" features in a software update this fall: V. P. N. access, Office productivity suite compatible, hardware data encryption and so on.

But never mind. As it is, the Kindle Fire HDX is a lightweight, sharp-screened, superfast pleasure.
