This would Move From Amazon.com Get You to Buy a Phone Fire or Kindle Fire? – Motley Fool

The Fire phone was a flop. Source: Amazon.

Even after the full-on flop of the Fire Phone, Amazon.com ( NASDAQ: AMZN ) CEO Jeff Bezos it remains dedicated his Increasing the company’s relevance in the growing mobile economy. Amazon’s most recently reported plan could convince people Their next tablet Should be a Kindle Fire or even the next Fire That Phone – Should it come along – is at least worth taking a look at. TechCrunch reports That Amazon is working on a program That allows customers to download premium paid apps and buy in-app add-ons for a single fee. The program is being called Unlocked, According To TechCrunch – Which said it got the skinny via a leaked internal presentation – and it operates similarly is Amazon’s Prime Instant Video service … but, you know, for apps.

Not just for Amazon devices
Unlocked would not be just for Amazon devices. Amazon’s app store is available for any Google ( NASDAQ: GOOGL ) ( NASDAQ: GOOG ) Android device, but users must disable security settings Certain it install it. When Amazon tried to sneak into its app store its flagship app, Google delisted it, so now users must install the app store from the web.

Clearly, Google does not want the competition. Nor Should it. Last year, the company generated $ 10 billion Approximately in gross revenue from its app store, so it’s a big market That it’s cornered.

But Unlocked small give users the incentive they need to go out of Their way and install the Amazon app store. And Those would be valuable customers for Google – customers willing to pay for apps, at least in some form.

Amazon has attempted to draw customers that its app store before by giving away apps Typically That charge a price, Attracting customers interested in free apps. Unlocked but would attract a different brand of customer. Typically Customers who spend a lot on paid apps or in-app purchases would be drawn to the flat fee of Unlocked. That’s bad news for Google, because Those customers make up the Majority of its app store revenue.

Unlocked would reportedly be limited in its selection of apps, and participation would be at the developer’s discretion. An app apr be free one day and a few bucks the next, and an app That had free in-app purchases a small charge for them again in the future. That could lead some frustrated customers that if Amazon does not manage its partner relationships.

Kick-starting sales Fire Phone
While Kindle Fire sales are to continue well ACCORDING to the brief glimpses of the Amazon A provides to us, the Fire Phone was undoubtedly a flop. Amazon was forced to write down $ 170 million worth of Fire Phone inventory in its third quarter, Resulting in a huge earnings miss, and a dent that its stock price.

With tablets, Amazon Understands That the device is primarily about media consumption. In That sense, coupling a year of Amazon Prime makes perfect sense. And while users are consuming an Increasing amount of video content on Their smartphones, they’re still largely about the apps and games.

About one-third of the total time spent on smartphones in the US is with games, and that’s exactly what he Focuses reportedly Unlocked. While it will have some non-game apps, the headlining partners reportedly include Sega of America, and smaller game maker UsTwo. Coupling a free year of Unlocked with a phone would make it instantly more attractive.

Only Amazon
Only Amazon could offer the kind of deal Unlocked Potentially disruptive Seems to be. Unlocked will reportedly require users to download Amazon’s flagship app in order to work, and some nice branding pops up every time a user would have otherwise had to buy something from the app store. It Seems Amazon sees potential for the app store to drive incremental sales on its retail website. That’s exactly the strategy behind Prime, as well, Which has worked wonderfully, According To management.

Whether Unlocked ever sees the light of day, and Whether it can persuade users to switch it Amazon hardware – or at least install its app store – remains to be seen. But Amazon Appears dead-set on Strengthening its position in mobile, Which is key if it does not want to become just another app.

This $ 19 trillion industry could destroy the Internet
One bleeding-edge technology is about to put the World Wide Web to bed. And if you act right away, it could make you wildly rich. Experts are calling it the single largest business opportunity in the history of capitalism … The Economist is calling it “transformative” … But you’ll probably just call it “how I made my millions. ” Do not be too late to the party – click here for one stock to own When the site goes dark.

Amazon: the “Send to Kindle” is still free – PCLab.pl

Last week, holders of readers Kindle lost the ability to wirelessly Mobi files. This coincided with the announcement of a new pricing Amazon Cloud Drive, so the media industry wysnuły very likely conclude that the function of the Send to Kindle ceased to be free, because it uses a cloud-mentioned data. The reality was somewhat different, and Amazon confirms that the transmission will still be free.

So far, Amazon Cloud Drive server offering 5 GB data free of charge but after the last update price list free of charge only the first 3 months of service. Then Unlimited photo storage and 5 GB of space for other files that costs $ 12 per year. There is also a more expensive package that removes all restrictions for $ 60 per year. With the addition of new subscriptions to the service stopped working Send to Kindle, which is associated with the Amazon cloud. For this reason, most people decided that from now on users of e-book reader will need to purchase access to the cloud, if they still want to be able to easily upload files to their device.

Those allegations – even rational – proved is wrong. Amazon consultants have already said that a break in the action data is only failure resulting from changes in the cloud, and now confirmed that the relevant entry in the rules of the server. Nevertheless, within two days of non Send to Kindle feature a lot of people agreed to purchase a subscription, which immediately restored the ability to send files Mobi. The whole situation seems strange and ultimately do not know if Amazon simply later changed his mind, whether it actually has struggled with a temporary failure. Ultimately, it all ended well, but the image of the company had already affected.

Send-to-Kindle work, there is no scandal – FrazPC.pl

Two days ago Amazon announced that its service Cloud Drive , in which each user so far have 5 GB of space in the cloud for free, will be paid. The cheapest tariff plan that is intended to guarantee us is these 5 GB will cost USD 11.99 per year, or less than $ 1 per month. With this information it was thought that it would be forced to pay the Kindle reader users who are using the service Send-to-Kindle send each other wirelessly books and reading files which were held not only in the the reader, but also in the Amazon cloud. However, these fears proved to be unfounded.

Initially, on Friday there were some problems with sending files on the Kindle, but it was just a failure. Today, it’s working, according to what customer service staff assured the Amazon, and the help page associated with Cloud Storage service, there is also an appropriate note that the files sent to the Kindle does not count against the limit of the service.

In the Polish Internet a great storm broke out, but as it turns out very unjustly today, and if the fear of not being able to send files to the Kindle have opened paid subscriptions Cloud Storage is remember to turn it off, because for three months will cost you USD 11.99. Certainly, this is very good news for all the users of Amazon readers, because the Send-to-Kindle is not only the ability to independently send files, but also a service offered by a large part of selling ebooks online bookstores in Poland.

works again free to send books to readers Kindle MOBI – Spider’s Web

Changes to the Amazon Cloud cloud sharing affected customers on Thursday backfire with Kindle readers. Analyzing the performance characteristics (and non) service Send to Kindle and messages on the website of Amazon wysnuliśmy conclusion that can no longer be free to send MOBI files on the Kindle reader. This state of affairs continued for nearly two days, but it fortunately changed.

The problems we reported on the Spider’s Web immediately after the as we have seen a change in behavior Send to Kindle for several different readers. Simultaneously with the announcement of the introduction of paid Cloud Drive plans for clients registered in the US version of the store, a large proportion of users assigned to the reader stopped working amazon.com Send to Kindle feature.

Sending MOBI was not possible.

 amazon-cloud-drive

My Thursday’s article on the date and time of publication was consistent with the facts: the incorporation by Amazon paid service plans Cloud Drive resulted disable sending free MOBI files for readers under the Send to Kindle. They were not at the individual cases. This was in contradiction to earlier information about the service sending content over the air, which should be independent.

The problem is that the Send to Kindle … did not work. Fortunately, it did not work I scratched black scenario. Amazon consultants argued that the lack of ability to send files to Kindle readers was a failure. When implementing new plans, some customers could not send new files, plus the messages on Cloud Drive suggested that it is necessary to switch to a pay plan “to resume synchronization” – which, after all a service Send to Kindle impact should not be.

The failure was puzzling.

 send-to-kindle

It is worth mentioning here that the failure was very unusual. Amazonowi not got out of the service altogether Send to Kindle, because activation of the test period of paid service plan Kindle magically restored the full functionality of the service. For me it was a clear signal that it can no longer be shipped without a paid plan.

I was not the only one who enunciated a similar conclusion based on Amazon’s actions. The next day, I monitored the Polish and English pages, forums, blogs, and Amazon’s support page and Twitter. On the issue of sending files, which solved until the transition to a paid option Test Cloud Drive, stumbled across a lot of people.

Amazon in less than two days, solved the problem and restore the full functionality of the service.

amazon-cloud-drive-2

Information about the change made by Amazon emerged yesterday, but it was only this morning I had a chance to check it at home . Shipping to the reader without activated new cloud actually is again possible – only sent on Thursday and Friday Materials “flew in the cloud.”

Files sent today already reach the reader and do not even distinguish the Send to Kindle archiving in the cloud. The help page and note appeared: “Kindle Personal Docs will no longer count against your Cloud Drive storage limits.” which were not previously seen.

This means that not separated Send to Kindle service from Cloud Drive.

 amazon-cloud-drive

Plans changed to paid and at first Cloud Drive does not accept new files that do not end well for the Send to Kindle. Only after nearly two days of Amazon introduced an update that began pass files to the reader and archive them, despite exceeding the free space. Of course, it is very possible that such a plan was from the beginning. It could just be an unfortunate setback.

A very unusual problems with Send to Kindle occurred at the worst possible moment, that is the Prime Minister of a new, very interesting indeed, clouds. Send to Kindle service did not work, as long as you are not tempted to test a period of paid service. I do not recognize at the same time as unrealistic scenario in which “failure” Send to Kindle was not the case, and an attempt to draw attention to the new Cloud Drive service plans – which by the way can be considered attractive.

I would like to believe, that was not the case, and it was all just a mistake. This of course could well be a cheap trick to attract new customers, which, moreover, gave a concert I was caught. However, as this was not the fact remains that for two days users – or at least their part – they did not have the ability to send materials, and the only way to start the service plan was to move to a surcharge. It is, however, of little importance today.

The bottom line is that after nearly two days of service Send to Kindle returned to its original state and is to be hoped that it will never be.

Amazon Kindle Voyage Express Review: They managed it better something that … – Financial Express

E-readers have come and gone, but the Amazon Kindle is still the world’s favorite digital book for one reason: it is the best e-book reader you can buy. This is the where it gets tricky for the company to think of a new version. How do you improve something That is already so good?

Amazon Kindle Voyage

At first look the Kindle Voyage is slightly different from its predecessors. The rear panel has a diamond cut finish That makes the edges thinner and Easier To grip. Amazon calls it the Origami cover. The power button has moved from under the screen to the rear and is Easier to get it When you are holding the device in reading mode. But the biggest change are the two lines and dots That flank the screen. Click on the dots on either side and you will be taken back a page. Click on the lines and you will mode and page up. Both clicks give you a haptic vibration, feedback to tell you That your command has been Understood.

It is thinner now.

The back cover has changed too.

What is good?

I have been a very satisfied Kindle Paperwhite user for the past year or so. This is why the Addition of the page turn side panels has come as a dry big joy for me. It is much more Easier and natural is just squeeze a bit more the where you are holding the e-reader. The page turns experience is also faster and better.

Pagepress is just a squeeze on the sides.

The front light on the screen now has a automatic adjust option. So you hold a Kindle Voyage and walk in and out of your house and your eyes would not have anything to adjust it. The screen will do that for you. The change is subtle and do not expect the device is a flicker to a brighter screen because you switched off the light. And That is the whole beauty of it.

The Amazon Kindle device I reviewed – a few months before Amazon started selling the e-readers in India – could connect to the Internet in India even though it was shipped from the US. Amazon called its global connectivity option and it still Whispernet works like a dream, though now with 3G. It worked out of the box and I did not have to do anything, not even log into my Wi-Fi to set up the Voyage. And it is fast. I downloaded and Devdutt Patnaik book in under a minute even though there was just one-bar connectivity at home. For the Kindle power user, this is a real cutting edge.

The Voyage Kindle comes with free 3G out of the box.

The screen quality has also improved. While it is hard to figure this out When you are reading the text, it is obvious When you are on a book cover and there are images to be shown.

What is not that good?

The Kindle Voyage is almost the perfect e-reader. The only issue I had was the page turns That could be a bit faster that you would want it to. So instead of one, you might turn two pages at times. The good thing is that you ‘can select the amount of pressure you want to apply for the Pagepress.

Should you buy?

You can adjust the pressure on Pagepress.

Of course, if you do not have and e-reader yet. But the Voyage only buy if you are one of Those Who wants to read on the go and would not mind paying a bit extra for That connectivity. Others can look at the more affordable options Which are still great e-readers. For me, the changes are good enough to start thinking about an upgrade though my Kindle Paperwhite is just a year old.

Finally, Thanks to Kindle Scout, Readers Can Vote on Which Bad Books … – Slate Magazine

Finally, Thanks to Kindle Scout, Readers Can Vote on Which Bad Books … – Slate Magazine

A few Kindle Scout titles.

As the title of one of the new century’s most Reminds us of beloved novels, complexity can exist only where we see the absence of complication. A single color contains multitudes. That novel’s author, E. L. James might have been commenting on the category Which is her own work belongs “bad” books. Fifty Shades of Grey is a bad book-cheesy, boilerplate, and silly, despite its silky sophistication and dreams of naughtiness. But man, the simple descriptor bad encompasses so many other vistas of badness, strange and terrible to behold. These are planets of implausibility and awfulness That revolve beyond the wildest imaginings our.

Katy Waldman is Slate ‘s words correspondent.

Kindle Scout is a new initiative from Amazon, and “reader-powered” publishing platform for “new, never-before-published books.” It works like this: Their Authors submit manuscripts, 5,000-word excerpts of Which are posted on the website for a 30 scouting -day period. During That Time, Amazon, members can browse the selections and nominate the ones they’d like to see published. A reader is allowed just three swappable picks at a time, that preserve the integrity of each recommendation. At the end of the trial run, a team of staffers tallies the nods, applying its own secret to decide Which rubric manuscripts get released. (A Kindle Scout representative declined it elaborate on the criteria it uses.) Selected books, Explains the Amazon, “will be published to Kindle Press and receive a 5-year renewable terms, a $ 1,500 advance, 50 percent royalty rate eBook, easy rights reversions and featured Amazon marketing. “

On the writer’s resource site Writer Beware, Victoria Strauss has a smart post Assessing the authorial incentives and drawbacks of dry a deal. The advance, though small, is better than nothing, and a 50 percent royalty rate Seems fairly generous. Kindle Scout offers exposure (rose) on a swift timeline (rose) without much prestige or developmental support (thorn, thorn). Chosen manuscripts hit the digital shelves as-is, sans editing, proofing, or guidance on artwork, though a spokeswoman for the program did mention That Kindle Press had connected “some of the very first” authors with professional copy editors. The real winner would Appear to be Amazon, Which can leverage readers’ direct or expires this lure them it its website and profit from successful new titles without losing too much on clunkers.

Beyond each writer’s personal arithmetic, though, and Amazon’s feline-stroking evil genius, Kindle Scout invites all the usual philosophizing about publishing and access. A program with open submissions puts more voices in circulation. It amplifies different kinds of voices, razing That institutional wayposts tend to disproportionately welcome white men. It Responds more nimbly to the Demonstrated preferences of the reading public, asking us to rethink our inherited notions of literary merit.

“What Rafe did it That suit Should Be Illegal.”

But I am not here to talk about the democratizing heroism of self-publishers and crowdsourcers. Or about the growing centrality of the consumer, who is able is customize her reading experience by telling Amazon Precisely what she wants to read before any work goes to press. I am here to talk about The Billionaire’s Bride Bodyguard . This is one of the first success stories of the process, and the Kindle Scout-approved book soon to be “published to Kindle Press,” Between the romance unfolding kick-ass “covert protection” agent Lauren Reynolds and gorgeous business mogul Rafe Dimitriou. We meet them at a wedding-themed fashion show the where Lauren plays the bride and groom the Rafe. They have a past. “His kisses had tasted like forever,” but those “hard muscular lines That provided the perfect counterpoint is her soft curves” were not enough to save Their relationship after he discovered she had infiltrated That his heart for a newspaper story.

Two years later, at the fashion show, “what Rafe did it That Should Be Illegal suit,” and Lauren is ” even lovelier than she’d been When he’d first laid eyes on her after he’d fished her out of the waters of his private beach. “They yearn, they despise. “Practically Testosterone oozed out of his pores. Much to her dismay, all of testosterone That happened to be focused on her at the moment. “They bait each other with dialogue That belongs in an antique Archie comic. “If I’d known you were in New York, I would have been Certain to be out of town,” Lauren says. “Should not you be in France? I just read an article about your new publishing house there. Judging by the photo of you and your latest conquest That accompanied it, you’re still mixing business with pleasure. “

Oh, hell. I’ll keep going. You know you want it.

“You know what they say about all work and no play,” he shrugged, the subtle movement drawing attention to her impossibly broad shoulders magnificently showcased by the tuxedo’s exquisite tailoring.

“So what brings you here? Another acquisition? “She hated That she needed to know.
” In a manner of speaking. “He paused, capturing her gaze and holding it. “I have business with you, actually.”
“You came here to see me?” She asked, incredulous.

He nodded, pulling her closer while soft, romantic music pulsed and ebbed around them.

This kind of writing is unabashed. It is breathtakingly, gloriously bad. And it raises a question: What do we mean when we talk about bad books?

Kindle Cover Disasters validates the Existence of Tumblr, self-publishing – The Verge

Kindle Cover Disasters validates the Existence of Tumblr, self-publishing – The Verge

Just like nobody can hear you scream in space, nobody can see what book you’re reading on your Kindle. It’s one of the Reasons 50 Shades of Grey blew up. Who knew That letting readers Their BDSM fiction ingest nearly anywhere, sans public shaming, would catch on? E. L. James, that’s who. Yet, even with thousands and thousands of words (and a plot), the authors still need a cover; not only so it will look nice on digital bookshelves, but also to help legitimize Their work when you’re holding your mouse over the buy button That. Thanks to the brave new ( ish ) That is the world of digital self-publishing, self-designed book covers exist without any Committees or publishers to say no, or ask “Why does man have the That head of a horse? ” And so the Kindle Cover Disasters was born.

“How hard can it be? “

The Tumblr blog, which was spotted by The Guardian , is a compendium of bad Photochops, misguided ideas, and what might be viewed during other times in human history as fine art, all in the form of self-published books on Amazon. “It is the hubris of it that people get a kick out of,” the blog’s anonymous curator told The Guardian . “The devil-may-care attitude of an author, who, with a zero arts training, says it themselves: ‘How hard can it be?’”

From the looks of things – not hard enough.

Do not get me wrong though. There is a kind of wonderful unprofessionalism about it that actually ends up drawing you in. Perhaps that was not the original intent of Rhys Hughes’s “Young Tales of the Old Cosmos” In Which illustrator Gonzalo Canedo has impregnated onto human faces celestial bodies. But now I have to know: is there a love triangle Between These three moons? Nevermind. Have my 99 cents and I will make my own discoveries.

These creations exist in part because Amazon’s guidelines for book covers are delightfully lax. You can upload just about anything, though the company encourages authors that err on the side of caution. “A book is Judged by its cover!” the company suggests, this self-publishers. “The image you use for your cover will be a focal point of your design, so choose carefully.”
