Appearance and ergonomics

Kindle Oasis is significantly different in appearance from previous readers from Amazon. Ba, also stands out against the background of the whole competition. This time the designers came to the conclusion that the classical form of the housing is sufficiently comfortable and look for a different, unorthodox solutions. The new Kindle is distinguished by several traits – is incredibly lightweight, the housing is asymmetrical, so much more convenient to the reader holds in one hand, and also returned to the physical buttons to change pages.

Kindle Oasis

As previous readers Amazon seemed to be very handy, ergonomic and comfortable. And to some extent still are. Finally, the difference between the Oasis Paperwhite and only 75 grams. Voyage turn is heavier by 50 grams. Is that a lot? Not objectively, but at the moment when it starts to use the Oasis, the difference is huge. Reader (especially without cover) is light as a feather, and holding it in one hand is more convenient than ever.

Oasis Kindle reader in hand

Much of the credit not only weight, but profiling and housing. One side of it is distinctly thicker, so that the handle is much more reliable. It feels like to hold a newspaper or magazine folded in half.

Kindle Oasis rear casing

also changed the proportions of the reader, which now much closer to the square. With this modification, on one side you have been able to put physical buttons to change pages. The reader is equipped with an accelerometer, so that when the gear ratio to the second arm, the screen automatically rotates 180 degrees. Orientation change is instant, without any delay – eg. A tablet.

Kindle Oasis buttons to change pages

The top button to display the next page, and the bottom scrolls backwards. You can change these settings in the options. The screen itself is flat (as in Kindle Voyage and inkBOOK Obsidian), touch and illuminator.

Display

The same screen, although it seems at first glance smaller than before, it is still standard diagonal of 6 inches. Used here Carta E Ink display with a resolution of 1448 x 1072. This gives a pixel density of 300 ppi. This in turn means very detailed and sharp images, crisp fonts and high quality graphics. Without a shadow of a doubt I can say that this is the best screen, which currently can be found in e-book readers.

Kindle Oasis lighting control

There were also additional lighting. Ten LEDs ensures an even light over the entire surface of the display, while setting the maximum screen brightness in the night, you’ll see minimal differences. In normal, day and evening light are imperceptible. In most cases, used the reader with brightness set between 10 and 16 (for 24-point scale).

This what is missing is a light sensor that automatically closely conforming to the surrounding brightness. It may come as a surprise especially since the Voyage this functionality is found.

Cover

Another new Kindle Oasis cover. Unlike previous models, it is sold in a set with the reader. It is also the key element. Not only because it protects the screen from mechanical damage, automatically wake up the reader when it is opened, but it also has a built-in battery.

It is very important that the battery in the card reader is very small – its capacity is only 245 mAh. Amazon says that this should be enough for approx. Two weeks of reading, but from my observation time is greatly overestimated.

Kindle Oasis Cover

The battery cover has a capacity of 1290 mAh and automatically recharges the battery in the reader. Installing reader cover is very simple, thanks to the magnetic holder. It is so strong that there is no concern about the fact that the reader himself fall out of cover, yet easy to remove.

Anyway, that’s what I encourage you – read the much more convenient. After finishing reading dress Oasis cover, loading the occasion of its battery.

On the next page you will find a further description of the operation, review and assessment functions of the reader.
