Celebrations kindle hope for city – The Hindu

Chennaiites kept Their Christmas celebrations on a sober note, with the city just recovering from the aftermath of the recent floods .

Churches in the city, Including Santhome Cathedral, New Life Assembly of God at Little Mount, CSI Egmore Wesley Church and St. St. George’s Church, saw several families walk in for the midnight mass.

“The church I usually go to has toned down Christmas decorations this year,” said N. Michelle, who offered prayers at The Holy Trinity Church. Christmas choir concerts were held around the city to keep up the spirit of the festive season and raise funds for the flood-affected. The Express Avenue mall had in its central atrium, festive decorations themed ‘Christmas Village at the North Pole’ with a train ride around the set-up, proceeds of Which will be given to the victims of the Chennai floods.

Christmas has lifted the spirits of people and also brought hope and celebrations after the city sobered down due to the floods, said a visitor to the mall.
