EL James’ Fifty Shades is best-selling Kindle book of all time – Wired.co.uk

                 

British author EL James has sold more ebooks on the Kindle than any other writer

EL James is the bestselling Kindle author of the past five years with the Fifty Shades trilogy dominating the top-five in the UK.

The details come as Amazon marks five years of selling Kindle ebooks in the UK, with books That were turned into films making up eight of the top ten bestsellers of the past half decade.

Fifty Shades of Grey I was at number one, with Fifty Shades Darker at two and Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl third. Lee Child was the second bestselling author, with Stieg Larsson rounding out the top three.

The Kindle store launched in August 2010 with 400,000 titles – That figure today is closing in on four million.

As well as bestselling books and authors, Amazon also released some curious facts about the UK’s reading habits. Romance is the number one Kindle genre in Leeds, Sheffield, Doncaster and Bradford, while Cambridge is the top city for books about society, politics and philosophy.

The most well-read town or city based on books bought per capita is Huntingdon in Cambridgeshire, with Doncaster, Rochester, Truro and Chorley Completing the top five.
