Amazon Kindle. The end of paper? E-ink displays – Your PC

bit of history

first Amazon Kindle let the market in November 2007, and the interest of customers in the equipment exceeded the expectations of the same manufacturer, because in just 5.5h sold out the entire stock of inventory. The same model again appeared on the market in late April of the following year. He had a keyboard, 6” e-ink display (167ppi, 4 shades of gray), stereo speakers, headphone jack, and the only one so far enabled the Amazon reader SD card memory expansion. Kindle 2 was hatched in February 2009. Equipment was closed in zgrabniejsze than precursor housing, but still with a keyboard and stereo sound, except that there have been several technical changes: more built-in memory (2GB instead of the previous 256MB), an improved display (16 shades of gray, the same resolution and size), faster processor etc. Model DX appeared in the same year, and it really is an enlarged version of the Kindle 2 display offering 9.7 “(in both cases is the first generation of e-ink displays Vizplex) and a few minor additions. Gray DX with Wi-Fi and 3G born a year later – it’s in the refreshed version of the reader for the first time using the second generation of e-ink Vizplex named Pearl. The Kindle Keyboard is considered to be the third generation of the Amazon reader, appeared in late 2010, and clad in a robe graphite and equipped with Wi-Fi and 3G made its debut a year later. The fourth-generation Kindle (via Amazon’s called simply the Kindle or Kindle Classic) was made available to the world in 2011, with the black version of colors a year later.

This last is called by some vendors and users as the Kindle 5 (Amazon still calls it the Kindle Classic – and this version is always available). In the meantime, because in 2011, was born four touch modification, called the Kindle Touch (still in the official offer). Kindle Paperwhite (first generation), which is officially the fifth installment of the Amazon reader, appeared on the market in 2012. This is actually a development model, Touch – screen size has not changed, and increased the resolution to 216ppi, and also added an innovative backlight. A year later, because in 2013 Paperwhite released the second generation – the current sales. Was first used here Carta screen instead of a legacy already Pearl, but leaving unchanged the resolution (216ppi). From the information on the Internet can read that in the paper is the third generation of the revised Paperwhite screen no longer Carta, and likely Mobius 300ppi resolution.

I think that in the near future you can expect to also touch and the classic version of the reader equipped with an improved screen. On the CPR model with a keyboard and a bloated DX I already did not count.
The development of e-readers was therefore dynamic, and the future promises to be even more interesting. Flexible screens Mobius offer include higher contrast and much larger than the Pearl resistance to physical damage.
