Well, they arrived today. My 500 free coins, the equivalent of $ 5.00 to use with my Kindle Fire. The coins were given to Promote Amazon’s launch of virtual coins. The free coins were Deposited in the accounts of new Kindle Fire customers and current users who are in the U.S. Mike George, vice president of apps and games at Amazon, proudly set the stage for the May 13th launch.
“Today we are giving Kindle Fire owners $ 5 worth of coins to spend on new apps and games, or to purchase in-app items, dry as recipes in iCookbook, song collections in SongPop or mighty falcon bundles in Angry Birds Star Wars. ” He affirmed, “We will continue to add more ways to earn and spend Coins on a wider range of content and activities – today is Day One for Coins.”
The interesting point about the virtual coins is the lure of discounts. If you buy them in bulk, you can get discounts of up to 10 percent. In lower volumes the coins go for 100 coins for $ 1.00. If you want the 10 percent discount, you would place an order for 5,000 ($ 45) or 10,000 coins ($ 90). They never expire and there are no fees, so it will be easier to buy apps.
Amazon also hopes the virtual currency will motivate Increased paid app downloads and Encourage application developers to view Amazon’s store as an even bigger challenger to Google’s Play Store and Apple’s App Store.
Whether the coins become popular or put off customers remains to be seen. They could follow in the footsteps of Facebook and Zynga. Facebook Credits in 2009 tried to Encourage in-app purchases but ended the program in 2012 and Zynga’s RewardVille ZCoins and Their marketplace folded shop in December of 2012.
Amazon is a mega-seller, with great variety of products, though. And if they are starting first with the Kindle Fire and then graduate to allow users to spend the virtual currency in other places like the Kindle e-books, Amazon music tracks, Prime subscriptions or for Amazon Web Services, then the discounts would serve customers well. Now, if Eventually they can be used on non-virtual That Amazon sells merchandise online? I’m there every day!
