Amazon launched its Kindle ereader to much fanfare, then it did the same with its Kindle Fire tablet. Now it plans to take on the far more competition-heavy challenge of releasing a high-end smartphone. Its ace in the hole? A 3D screen with eye-tracking technology.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 already packs eye-tracking technology, while the LG Optimus 3D and HTC EVO 3D both featured 3D displays – but Amazon’s the first to combine the two technologies. The Amazon Kindle phone will reportedly be able to display icons and other images on the screen can be in 3D from different angles, much like a hologram. If it’s as good as it sounds this could be a winner.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Amazon plans to release the 3D smartphone and an audio-only streaming device in the coming months – though it small yet be shelved if its performance does not match expectations.
