TEST: Kindle 8. generation. Amazon reader is the cheapest so far … – Virtual Poland

The undisputed king of the readers is Amazon, which has been producing more and better equipment. But the Kindle 8. generation is not any better than its predecessor – quite the contrary, in many ways it is worse. So what if it’s the cheapest Kindle, which has so far hit the market.
 
 

Appearance and performance

 
 At first glance, the Kindle 8 does not come with high-end readers. The housing is made entirely of lightweight plastic. The whole weighs 161 grams. Built-in Memory of the new Kindle is 4 GB and just a few thousand books. Amazon readers are generally available in either 3G or WiFi. In this model, the US company has put on maximum simplicity and produced only model with WiFi. Kindle is the first model 8 years, which is available in two colors: black and white. I fell for testing model white. And though after years of black readers appreciate diversity, it is better to buy the black version. Why? Therefore, the plastic casing is a little rough (to have a good lie in the hand), so you can catch those which dirtier fingerprints.
 
 

 
 Kindle, a new battery must be capable of withstanding a single charge up to several weeks. But everything depends on how often you use the device – I read a lot, so I tested the Kindle discharged after approx. 10 days.
 
 

Display

 
 The display, by default, has a 6 “diagonal. The screen resolution is 800 x 600 pixels. The best and most expensive kindle’u offered by Amazon, model Oasis, the screen resolution is 1448 x 1072 pixels. The difference can be seen, but in tact reading it ceases to be so Important.
 
 

 
 The display is made in the course of e-paper. And that means, among other things, that does not emit their own light and therefore easy on the eyes when reading. The screen is black and white, and behaving like ordinary paper. In contrast, more recent models readers Amazon, Kindle 8 is not illuminated display. It uses for infrared sensor, so the screen can be operated even when wearing gloves.
 
 

Maintenance

A smartphone or tablet, the service will be fully intuitive. Scrolling gesture to the left rolls the paper in the front, scrolling gesture to the right – back.  As in practice reading at the cheapest reader Amazon so far? Well – because of the lack of backlight you have to remember about the external light source (or simply a glass). It will be difficult to read in the means of communication, ie, buses, trains, airplanes, where we can not always count on good lighting. The device itself works fine – pages refresh smoothly, kindle not “muses” and hangs.
 
 

Price

 
 And now perhaps the nicest feature of the new Kindle 8. generation. In the German Amazon reader that without advertising costs 79.99 euros. In terms of buck is approx. 350 PLN (delivery is free).
 
 

Who is the new Kindle?

Time for a new Kindle – Kobo Aura They suspended the bar really high – Antyweb

The six-inch screens Oasis, Voyage whether Paperwhite suit most users reader Kindle. High resolution display allows you to select one of the smaller size of the text, so that the screen can accommodate more content, but there are some cases in which the opportunity to take advantage of the slightly larger screen would be a godsend. I admit that politics Amazon amazes me a little, because it consistently for many, many years, we do not get the option to choose a reader with a screen diagonal of greater than 6 inches, while the competition offers such a choice. Tablets of Fire series can be found in many sizes so that it is hard to keep up with regularly updated portfolio – in the world of Kindle nothing in this matter does not change. A pity, because the Voyage whether Oasis could also exist in the XL .

the company Kobo, a reader in the mini version tested in the pages Antyweb, prepared an interesting alternative for Amazon. Aura One is the reader with a screen diagonal of 7.8 inches at a rate of PPI of 300 – this makes it the most detailed display on the market. This does not meant that the reader would gain weight or dimensions – its thickness is only 6,9mm and weighs only 230 grams. Oh, I almost forgot, the reader is of course waterproof and clarifying – we are talking about IPX8 standard. Immersing the reader up to two meters will not be prejudicial to it.

Kobo finished well a bit of work on the issue of coexistence of software and hardware, resulting in the screen adjusts its brightness and color temperature of the environment in which it is located (the same True tones as a display in the new iPad Pro 9.7 inches). It’s very cool and useful addition. The device is devoid of physical buttons except one, of course, responsible for switching on and off of the reader. Turn pages and navigation interface is done using the touch screen, what we’ve managed to get used to.

Kindle 8 has 512 MB of RAM – twice more than the Kindle 7.

However, I suspect that this difference could not be felt. It does not change the amount of flash memory, which is 4 GB. It may seem that this is not enough, but it allows for a room of hundreds of books. It can not be, however, extended by microSD cards.

The latest generation Kindle has a long duration of action.

According to Amazon the new product has to withstand four weeks no charge. if you read relatively little, this time to actually succeed you get. But even if Kindle will be used intensively, it does not need to be recharged more often than once a week.

Is it worth buying Kindle 8?

If you do not have a similar device and you do not want to not spend too much money, as most do. On the other hand, if you can spend more or you already have an older Kindle, you better choose equipped with a backlight model Paperwhite, which is much better than the basic version of the reader.
