One item

That is already available is the regular Kindle – Which has been available via the Web and physical retailers since August 2012 – although it is provided by Amazon’s local partner Croma since Amazon is not yet able to sell goods direct to consumers in India Due to restrictions on foreign direct investment (FDI). At this point, the other devices are Likely to be sold the same way as the Kindle – but that remains unconfirmed for now.

The company has spent the past year or so exploring India’s e-commerce space after it launched Junglee – a price comparison and aggregation site – in February, 2012.

The impending launch of the Kindle in India follows the long-awaited launch of the devices in China. After more than a year of speculation, the Kindle Paperwhite with Wi-Fi, 16 GB and 32 GB HD Kindle Fire went on sale in the country.

Amazon seems like it is finally stepping up to address the online retail potential within two of the world’s largest countries.

Methodology: Sara Margolin and colleagues at SUNY Brockport gave 90 college students a critical reading test consisting of five fiction and five non-fiction passages, each Followed by a short set of multiple-choice questions. The passages were presented either printed on paper, and the 6-inch Kindle screen (the version meant to imitate text on paper), or a computer monitor.

class=”c12″> The students were allowed to spend as much time on the passages, Which were all at a high school reading level and about 500 words in length, as they liked, but they were not allowed consult it back once they Began to each question set. The questions required the students to extrapolate and draw Conclusions from what they had read, instead of just quizzing them on Their recall.

RESULTS: Overall accuracy, at about 75 percent, was consistent Regardless of Whether the students read the passages on paper or a screen.

The students also reported on Their reading behaviors (ie Following along with a finger, highlighting text, and taking notes), and the only difference observed was that participants the skipped around less when reading on the Kindle than on paper. This had no observable impact on comprehension.

implications: Hard copy purists might continue to insist That there are drawbacks to digital reading, especially when it comes to longer texts. An informal study with a sample size of one, for example, concludes That trying to tackle Infinite Jest on a Nook just sets you up for failure. But ability to flip back and forth, leave Post-its, and throw your book across the room in frustration aside, there does not seem to be anything about the text itself that’s getting absorbed less when it’s presented on a screen instead of on paper . With e-books becoming most amazing common in classrooms, it’s good to know that students can do just as well (or, depending on the interpret That 75 percent figure, not well) with virtual reading material.

Review: Amazon Kindle Fire HD does best iPad but it's half the price - Victoria Times Colonist

TORONTO – Thursday marks the official shipping date for Amazon’s Kindle Fire HD in Canada and while it’s not an iPad killer, it does have one big advantage over Apple’s competing tablet: it’s about half the price.

In terms of technical specifications and performance, there’s not a whole lot That makes the Kindle Fire HD really stand out in the most amazing crowded tablet market. It feels fine to use and does most of what users expect from a tablet, it just does not feel cutting edge.

And that’s because it is not. Consumers in the U.S. have had access to the Kindle Fire HD since last fall.

Amazon is just now rolling out its latest tablet to Canada and many other markets around the world, hoping consumers will overlook the delay and consider the two versions of the Kindle Fire HD bargains.

An 8.9-inch model with 16 gigabytes of storage sells for $ 284, or there’s 32 gigabytes for $ 314 Those prices are $ 215 and $ 285 cheaper than similar-sized iPads with the same amount of storage space.

A seven-inch Kindle Fire HD starts at $ 214, Which is $ 115 less than an iPad mini, but a little more than other competing tablets of the same size.

So why Amazon has priced its tablets so aggressively? The company makes less money on its hardware hoping to make it up on the sales of ebooks and other content in its Appstore, Which has more than one million items to choose from. Notably missing in Canada are: Amazon’s Netflix-like video streaming service that’s part of its Prime loyalty program, and the store to buy digital copies of movies and music, and the newsstand of magazines and newspapers, and some US-only apps.

The Kindle Fire HD runs a modified version of Google’s Android operating system and the apps are taken from a streamlined version of the Google Play marketplace. The selection is not as good as what’s found in Apple’s App Store but many popular games and apps are available. For example, while the current hit Candy Crush can not be downloaded, others like Angry Birds, Bejeweled 2, Fruit Ninja, Plants Vs. Zombies and Temple Run 2 are.

When comparing the specs of the Kindle Fire HD for the iPad and other tablets it stacks up well.

The 8.9-inch version of the Kindle Fire HD is a few tenths of an inch smaller than the iPad and its screen resolution is just a little short of the dots per inch found on Apple’s tablet. Amazon says it gets about 11 hours of battery life Compared to Apple’s claims of 10 hours. While the iPad has two cameras, the Kindle Fire HD only has one for video conferencing (it can also take photos, although poorly).

Amazon claims the WiFi capabilities of the Kindle Fire HD are laptop-quality and top of class for tablets. But in my testing, I encountered a few bugs connectivity. On one evening, the two demo units I had in my home refused to connect to either of my WiFi networks, even though my laptop, three other smartphones and a device connected to my TV had no problems getting online. After an hour of troubleshooting, I gave up. The next morning, they mysteriously Began working again without intervention and the issue never resurfaced.

The only other issue I encountered was a touch of occasional lag while using the device. It does not feel as slick to use as the iPad or some other higher-end devices, but first-time tablet users probably would not notice.

Users who have had Their hands on a variety of tablets that now would probably find the Kindle Fire HD feels familiar to use and capable of most tasks – but not particularly impressive. The best thing about it is the price, Which will no doubt appeal to many buyers who have always wanted a tablet but still found them a little too expensive. Current tablet owners consider a small Kindle Fire HD as a cheap second device for around the house.

Kindle Fire on Fire in Second Quarter 2013; Reviews-Domain.com Reviews and ... - PR Web (press release)

(PRWEB) June 12, 2013

Smaller is better, right? With advances in electronic tablet technology, the whole panoply of apps and features endemic to the “original” sized tablets is available now in a mere 7 “screen. Two juggernauts compete for brand space in this niche, and the Kindle Fire HD claims to have the upper hand over its next-closest competitor.

Kindle Fire HD features 30% more pixels and 33% more pixels-per-inch than the competition, Which means clearer, sharper images. With the Kindle Fire HD, they can watch HD movies and TV-not possible on a similar, non-Kindle device, because it’s not an HD device. And because low-quality sound can ruin the HD entertainment experience, the Kindle Fire HD features dual stereo speakers and Dolby Digital Plus. Additionally, the Kindle Fire HD offers fast Wi-Fi with dual band, dual antennas + MIMO. With all this, the Kindle Fire HD is still $ 130 less than its closest competitor.

These are the features That consumers look for, predominantly – clarity, sound, function, and price (not necessarily in that order). WiFi speed can not be underestimated, especially for the user who plans to download lots of applications, movies, music, and other media. Kindle Fire HD loves to profile its dual band, dual antennas when boasting of superior WiFi speed.
