Amazon Launches Kindle E-Readers & Tablets In India - MediaNama.com

Amazon logo A week after launching its marketplace in India, India Amazon has launched its Kindle ebook readers and tablets in the country. These devices will be available from Amazon.in as well as a retail store dry as Croma, Reliance Digital, E-Zone and Vijay Sales in Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore, Chandigarh, Gurgaon, Kolkata, Hyberabad, and Ahmedabad.

The Kindle Paperwhite WiFi model is priced at Rs 10,999 and WiFi +3 G model at Rs 13,999, the Kindle Fire 7-inch at Rs 15,999 and Kindle Fire 8.9-inch at Rs 21,999 and will be available for purchase starting June 28, 2013. It’s not clear Whether Croma retail store will handle the delivery of other devices as well.

note that in March 2013, Amazon.com subsidiary, Amazon Seller Services had appointed the IT distributor Redington India as a national distributor for its Kindle devices. Previously, Amazon had tied up with the multi-brand electronics store chain Croma to offer Kindle devices on Croma’s online store and across various Croma retail outlets across India last August.

Kindle Store and the Android App Store in India

The company claims with the new hotel Kindle Store in India offers 1.7 million books priced in Indian currency. In April 2013, Amazon launched its Android Appstore in India allowing users in India to buy Android apps from its app store. The launch of these devices in India strengthens Amazon’s software and hardware ecosystem.

What’s not available in India

Amazon’s other content services dry as music (CloudPlayer), movies and television programs (Amazon Instant Video) are still not available in India.
