Kindle Paperwhite 3 – Reader, which you should choose – benchmark.pl

Kindle Paperwhite 3, as the name suggests already the third generation of probably the most popular e-book reader on the market. While the design of the housing practically does not change in future versions, however, at this time we have been quite a few changes. Amazon set in this case for a peaceful, balanced evolution.

The experiments and much more daring and innovative solutions introduced while in other models. A perfect example of this is the latest Kindle Oasis, which I had the opportunity to test, and in which, needless to say I fell in love right away. But back to the hero of today’s test.

Appearance and ergonomics

Paperwhite looks inconspicuous. Gray, matte plastic on the front, rather wide frame around the screen (narrower on the sides) and a shiny logo Kindle, everything that can be found on the front of the device.

Kindle Paperwhite 3

The rear part of the housing is made of plastic with a rubberized texture. It is pleasant to the touch and anti-slip, so no worries about the Kindle slip from his hands. Unfortunately, both the front and rear part of the housing tends to collect fingerprints.

Kindle Paperwhite 3 back

The only connector that can be found on the reader housing is a micro USB 2.0 port. It is used for charging the device and also to connect it to your computer in order to upload books. Placed right next to the power button. His short press lulls the reader and hold it off completely

Display

The biggest difference between successive generations Paperwhite applies to the screen. The first generation was the E Ink Pearl display with a resolution of 1024 x 758 pixels. The next version was replaced by a much better E Ink Carta. Resolution remained the same, but the screen was characterized by improved contrast and less ghostingiem.

The newest Kindle yet received a better screen. It is the E Ink Carta display with a diagonal of 6 inches and a much higher resolution of 1448 x 1072. This translates into a pixel density one-third greater. The difference is visible to the naked eye. Fonts are crisp, clear, prints accurately mapped. The scale of change is particularly noticeable if you suddenly go back to the older reader.

Lighting

Virtually the same screen can be found in more expensive readers Voyage and Oasis. The difference is evident in the number of diodes doświetlających. Kindle Paperwhite has four of them, while Voyage is equipped with six, and Oasis in ten LEDs. This is reflected in the uniformity of the illumination, which Paperwhite is somewhat weaker. At the bottom of the screen you will notice slightly darker areas. This does not affect happiness in any way for comfortable reading.

Kindle Paperwhite 3 adjust the illumination

The intensity of the illumination can of course be adjusted. Most of the time I have it set at 14-16. Reading at night brightness will decline to 10-12, as higher values and start to dazzle your eyes get tired a lot quicker. In full sun (in the park, on the beach) lighting can be turned off completely. On the other hand, reading in a very bright room should increase its intensity. In this way, the text will be much more contrast, making reading and become more comfortable.

Work

One of the biggest advantages of the reader is the length of operation on a single charge. In normal use, you will not need to do this more than once a month. In this respect, higher Kindle Oasis falls much worse, because it can withstand approx. Two weeks.

Cover

When buying a reader should immediately obtain the cover. In my case it is the original cover of Amazon in a dark blue color. Cover well protects the reader from damage and also automatically wakes and falls asleep device after its opening or closing. Paperwhite wrapped in the cover of the book resembles the size of a pocket version (called. Paperback).

Support

Interface Paperwhite is identical to that already described the occasion of the review Kindle Oasis. So I do not want to duplicate the content and refer to that article. In a few words I would add only that the home screen we have quick access to the most recently read books and recommendations from Amazon store. The latter can be turned off to you if you encourage the new books we supply in other bookstores.

Books can be sent wirelessly to the reader. The first way is to send a file to an email address dedicated to that particular copy of the advice. You can find it in the settings of the reader after registering it in the Amazon site.

Kindle Paperwhite 3 settings

Most of the Polish bookstore eBookstore offers shipping files on the Kindle. This is a very convenient solution, because in just a few moments after we purchase the book on your reader (if it has a connection to the Internet).

I think that sent in this way files are also sold on Amazon’s cloud, where they can be downloaded at any time. This is useful if you do not want to keep all the books in the reader’s memory, or if you have a few readers registered in one account. In this way, we have a constant and fast access to our entire library on each device.

Well read!

I must admit that I am a big fan and proponent of the dissemination of readers. At the same time I am fully aware that no reader can not hundred percent replace printed books. There are titles whose content is not limited to the text. Photos, graphics, charts – it’s still better presented in the paper.

When it comes to self reading – here its advantages are undisputed. Personally, I can not imagine even a short trip without a Kindle in your backpack. Paperwhite suited for this role perfectly. I do not have to worry about charging it (just do it once a month), it is lightweight and compact and holds more books than I can read. Kindle also accompanied me on my way to work, is also useful in long queues.

Kindle Paperwhite 3 Cover

Paperwhite I can in good conscience recommend to anyone looking for a very good e-book reader. For most it will be absolutely the best choice, especially because its price is not overly excessive – eg. In the case of Kindle Oasis. The latter is a premium reader – is much lighter, more convenient, more comfortable holding it in one hand.

kindle oasis

Design and ergonomics Paperwhite does not change for several years and is beginning to be visible. He could use some slight facelift to give it a modern flair. To the same action I have however no objections, it works because virtually identical to Oasis.

The newest reader Amazon is really phenomenal and as at the beginning mentioned, charmed me from the first moment and I think it is currently the best reader available on the market . But having to choose which one is more worthy of purchase, that although heart tells me Kindle Oasis, the mind and wallet inclined to Kindle Paperwhite, which is more than half the price.

The final evaluation:

  • excellent E Ink screen with a resolution of 1448×1072 Carta

  • adjustable illumination of the screen
  •

  • smooth operation interface
  •

  • Four weeks of work on a single charge
  •

  • excellent relationship price performance
  •

  • no light sensor
  •

  • casing design already somewhat archaic
  •

  • no Polish menu
  •

P2K, which is a Pocket Kindle – I was looking for such a tool for a long time – Antyweb

P2K is a simple application that accesses our Pocket account, and then sends written articles on our reader Kindle (or any other device with the Kindle application – this probably does not need to explain). So far, not too many tools of this type, at least I do not associate. I had a brief episode of Crofflr, for which you must pay a one-off. Ultimately, however, it gave up. P2K offers much greater opportunities, as well as enabling us to prepare manually schedule shipments. The whole is at the same time very simple and intuitive, what you can see on the screenshots posted.

the creators make your application free of charge (when registering slider appears, through which we can declare the amount that we will help them). But in order to get access to all functions, we have to pay a minimum of $ 3 per month. It is not much, especially when you consider the additional features. First of all, the plan premium articles are sent immediately. We can also manually choose the ones that will go on the Kindle or filter them based on the assigned tags. Texts may also be getting an e-mail address other than Kindle’owy (because yes!). We also have the opportunity to create more than one schedule shipment. So if someone is planning to read a lot on Kindle’u, should be satisfied.

Same publications are well formatted and converted to the format of the reader. On my Paperwhite I had with them as if the slightest problem. Once transmitted can be a file of several articles. These can be recent, random or oldest – it all depends on your preferences and the selected service plan. What cool, the service can also automatically transfer sent to reader items to the archive, so our base gradually decreases.

Why should we read articles from Pocket reader? The advantages are many. The electronic paper is more comfortable for the eyes, and after dark the backlight reader does not emit blue light that could disturb our sleep (which, according to researchers). Another advantage is the lack of any kind of “zakłócaczy” and therefore the notification of the application, messaging, social networking and so on. We are just us and the reader with the basic, tailor-made features. I would definitely recommend reading the articles in such a way – a much better taste.

InkBook Obsidian. Quite a successful response to the reader Kindle – Dziennik.pl

inkBook Obsidian looks pretty good. On each side of the reader (made of good quality plastic) we have to change the side and below the screen we find the “back”. At the top is a microUSB port and microSD memory cards (up to 32GB). The device weighs 200 grams, which means that it is lighter than Kindle Voyage. The screen resolution is 1024×758 and contrast and black levels are as good as the devices Amazon. Highlighting the reader does not pose major problems. Yes, at the top you can see a light shadows, but they do not interfere with reading in the dark.

As the device is based on the Android , we can also be used to view the images, the Internet or send e-mails. This is not the best idea, the reader processor is too slow. Not to mention the fact that the black-and-white screen is not quite able to replace our tablet or smartphone.

It is for this run the application, which essentially created inkBOOK – Legimi . When you subscribe to get access to “Spotify for books”. This works perfectly – we can use all the titles available on the site. You can also install the application Kindle, which will allow us to use the purchased books on Amazon.

In summary, inkBOOK Obsidian is a pretty good reader that can successfully replace the Kindle models. Especially if you do not use books Amazon, but only plan to read items published in Poland. For 550 gold you get a decent device with a strong battery and a backlit screen. However, if you decide to subscribe Legimi, it would be better for the money to buy Kindle.

TEST: Oasis Kindle – Amazon’s latest reader – Virtual Poland

Kindle Oasis is the newest reader Amazon. It is small, lightweight and has two batteries – unlike its predecessor, which had only one. However, the main disadvantage is the price, which may scare off many a fan kindelka. So, is the most expensive model is the best? Check it out.

In Poland, the most recognizable readers, e-books are those belonging to the family of Kindle. Although we find in the shops offer a variety of companies, it is the Kindle stole the hearts bookworms and can safely be said that almost a synonym electronic book reader. Most people who decide to go with the traditional paper books to e-books in the first place take into account any of the models of the Kindle.

The latest variation on the Amazon e-book reader is the Kindle Oasis, which leaves the competition behind. First of all, because of its small size. However, its price … well, it leaves much to be desired – for the model with Wi-Fi pay 1280 zł (289.99 euros) , in the case of the 3G model will have to spend 1545 zł ( 349.99 euro) .

  Because size does matter

I showed anyone Kindle Oasis, was surprised at its size. Usually the first reaction sounded very much like “how tiny!”, “Looks like a toy”, “how light”. In fact, compared to the previous model, the Oasis is very small and handy – its dimensions are 143x122x3,4 mm (in order: długośćxszerokośćxgrubość at thinnest point). Recall that the Kindle Voyage measured 162x115x7,6 mm. For other parameters, the case is very similar. Screen size (6 inches), software or resolution (300 ppi) are identical.

It is worth noting that Amazon decided to listen to their customers and returned to the physical keys. Oasis has a built-in accelerometer that automatically senses, or use the right or left hand and set the page, as well as buttons for flipping them. The latest model has undergone a good weight loss program, because its weight was reduced from 180 g to 130 g.

  Appearance

The rear portion of the housing is shaped and roughly right. We find here the battery and all of the components. Reader keep the thicker edge, which we must admit is very convenient, and the same goes for the thumb slightly protruding buttons. Thanks to this change of sides is much more comfortable than in the case of “Tapani” on the screen.

In the package you get a stylish cover, which performs two functions – protects the reader and asks him extra chic and has a built-in battery (more about that in a moment). Fasten it with a magnetic holder, so that the device holds up very well. Cases should primarily protect the screen and the whole device from possible scratches. In the case of Oasis Kindle screen is actually protected, but as far as the back of the device, the cover does not cover it in its entirety. It is worth noting that the closure of the cover clears the screen (which is the closure to resemble a book), and the longer rest reader enters a deep sleep mode, which saves energy.

  lighting

The reader Oasis can completely turn off the backlight. Previous model when “zero” still shone gently, in order to facilitate start reading when it is completely dark. Unfortunately, this approach was abandoned in the latest model and the lowest level is actually dark. In addition, Oasis does not have a light sensor (that was present at the model Voyage), so we can not count on longer automatically adapt the lighting level to changing conditions, eg. During the bus ride. Used for a greater number of LEDs, so the screen is evenly illuminated.

  Two batteries

Oasis is the first Kindle reader Amazon, which has two batteries. One is located in the reader and has a capacity of only 245 mAh (for comparison in Voyage was 1320 mAh). The second battery is located in the cover and has been the capacity of 1290 mAh. Thus, the total capacity of both batteries are 1535 mAh, which is more than all other models of the Kindle family. After removing the cover, the battery indicator disappears in the eyes, and the device is able to operate only a few hours. When we put the reader into the cover, Kindle Oasis stand quietly about 8 weeks of regular reading.

  Supported Formats

Kindle as one of the few devices on the market do not read all popular file formats – including EPUB floor. But using such programs as such. Calibre or via the Online-Convert.com, we can convert books to MOBI format. Interestingly, e-books bought from Amazon and some Polish online bookstores can be read directly after purchase. If you only connect to the home Wi-Fi network or will purchase model in the 3G version, we can send the file as an attachment in e-mail (e-mail address can be found in the device settings – is assigned us to create your account at Amazon). After a few moments the selected book will appear on our reader.

In bookstores that do not have such a possibility, we can also expand our library of ebooks, but their upload requires a little more effort. You must then use a USB input that allows you to upload books directly from your computer to the device memory.

  Summary

Kindle Oasis charmed me with its lightness and convenience. However, my positive emotions quickly dampen price. The basic version of Wi-Fi costs 1280 zł, which for the average Kowalski is blocked amount. Amazon may lose many volunteers who are already rubbing their hands at the thought of the latest model of the Kindle. A pity, because this could be a very interesting alternative to other readers that are becoming more and more similar to each other – Oasis definitely stands out from the crowd.

Appearance and ergonomics

Kindle Oasis is significantly different in appearance from previous readers from Amazon. Ba, also stands out against the background of the whole competition. This time the designers came to the conclusion that the classical form of the housing is sufficiently comfortable and look for a different, unorthodox solutions. The new Kindle is distinguished by several traits – is incredibly lightweight, the housing is asymmetrical, so much more convenient to the reader holds in one hand, and also returned to the physical buttons to change pages.

Kindle Oasis

As previous readers Amazon seemed to be very handy, ergonomic and comfortable. And to some extent still are. Finally, the difference between the Oasis Paperwhite and only 75 grams. Voyage turn is heavier by 50 grams. Is that a lot? Not objectively, but at the moment when it starts to use the Oasis, the difference is huge. Reader (especially without cover) is light as a feather, and holding it in one hand is more convenient than ever.

Oasis Kindle reader in hand

Much of the credit not only weight, but profiling and housing. One side of it is distinctly thicker, so that the handle is much more reliable. It feels like to hold a newspaper or magazine folded in half.

Kindle Oasis rear casing

also changed the proportions of the reader, which now much closer to the square. With this modification, on one side you have been able to put physical buttons to change pages. The reader is equipped with an accelerometer, so that when the gear ratio to the second arm, the screen automatically rotates 180 degrees. Orientation change is instant, without any delay – eg. A tablet.

Kindle Oasis buttons to change pages

The top button to display the next page, and the bottom scrolls backwards. You can change these settings in the options. The screen itself is flat (as in Kindle Voyage and inkBOOK Obsidian), touch and illuminator.

Display

The same screen, although it seems at first glance smaller than before, it is still standard diagonal of 6 inches. Used here Carta E Ink display with a resolution of 1448 x 1072. This gives a pixel density of 300 ppi. This in turn means very detailed and sharp images, crisp fonts and high quality graphics. Without a shadow of a doubt I can say that this is the best screen, which currently can be found in e-book readers.

Kindle Oasis lighting control

There were also additional lighting. Ten LEDs ensures an even light over the entire surface of the display, while setting the maximum screen brightness in the night, you’ll see minimal differences. In normal, day and evening light are imperceptible. In most cases, used the reader with brightness set between 10 and 16 (for 24-point scale).

This what is missing is a light sensor that automatically closely conforming to the surrounding brightness. It may come as a surprise especially since the Voyage this functionality is found.

Cover

Another new Kindle Oasis cover. Unlike previous models, it is sold in a set with the reader. It is also the key element. Not only because it protects the screen from mechanical damage, automatically wake up the reader when it is opened, but it also has a built-in battery.

It is very important that the battery in the card reader is very small – its capacity is only 245 mAh. Amazon says that this should be enough for approx. Two weeks of reading, but from my observation time is greatly overestimated.

Kindle Oasis Cover

The battery cover has a capacity of 1290 mAh and automatically recharges the battery in the reader. Installing reader cover is very simple, thanks to the magnetic holder. It is so strong that there is no concern about the fact that the reader himself fall out of cover, yet easy to remove.

Kindle Oasis magnetic holder

Anyway, that’s what I encourage you – read the much more convenient. After finishing reading dress Oasis cover, loading the occasion of its battery.

On the next page you will find a further description of the operation, review and assessment functions of the reader.
