5 Quick Tips I Learned for Business Authors are Easily Format Kindle eBooks for … – Huffington Post

Recently, I’ve been working on several fiction and non-fiction writing projects. As a business author, my goal is to get the ideas into a document, and not to struggle with the tedious formatting details. But I found That if I use a formatting service, I’d need to pay for even the most minor edits or updates to my books after it’s launched. And That right can eat into any potential royalties I may have been expecting to earn.

So to get a better handle on easier formatting for Amazon Kindle, I picked up a few books written by Rosa Suen, sharing her Kindle publishing secrets with her students. Rosa has actually written hundreds of books, and THUS, has had a lot of experiences in the Kindle publishing. While many people can write Kindle books, many do not know how to tap into the power of writing books become bestsellers That.

Here are 5 Tips and Tricks I learned from Rosa Suen That are easy to implement, and will the ensure excellent Kindle Formatting Book:

Tip # 1: Use Microsoft Word to create your document.

Microsoft Word is a great tool to use because it’s extremely easy to format them into Kindle Books. Do not save your content in RTF (rtf) or DOCX (docx) as they do not convert well to Kindle.

Tip # 2: Make Page Break for each new chapter / heading

Kindle does not work on the ‘page numbers’ because the pages change depending on the kind of fonts the reader chooses. Put a page break after each chapter So that they are clearly from sectioned for the reader. This insert a page break in MS Word, use ‘Control’ + Enter.

Tip # 3: Spell Check

People can request refund of kindle books they purchase within 7 days. When buyers see ‘typos’ in your text, they will definitely ask for refunds. As an author with a couple of bestselling books, that has happened to me a few times, and while it apr have hurt my feelings (hey, I’m human), it’s a reasonable expectation reader to have error-free writing. So, is the ensure That your book is professionally done, remember to use the spell check tool.

Tip # 4: Use Easy Layout Features

Help Us MS Word features convert well into Kindle Books: indentations, bold characters, italics, underline & amp; headings.

Avoid using bullet points, headers and footers, tables as they do not convert well.

Tip # 5: Images

Do not use the MS Art & amp; Graphics feature for images. You can use images That are in jpeg format. Jpeg files can be easily re-sized in the Kindle sized format.

You do not need to restrict yourself to black and white images. Readers using free Kindle apps for PC, Mac, iPad, iPhone and Android can view color.

Amazon Invites Children’s Book Authors Kindle Direct Publishing It Rolls Out … – TechCrunch

Amazon Announced this afternoon That it will be expanding its Kindle Direct Publishing business to support the needs of children’s books authors through a new program it’s calling “KDP Kids.” Along with the program, Which is Aimed at helping authors prepare, publish and distribute books in the Kindle Store, Amazon is also releasing a new tool, the Kindle Kids’ Book Creator.

This tool will allow budding children’s book authors that create chapter books and illustrated children’s books That are able to take advantage of the Kindle features like text pop-ups, Amazon explains in an announcement about the new services. After the book is finalized, authors can also use the tool to upload the book is the KDP while also stipulating the category, age and grade range filters needed to get the book listed CORRECTLY.

OPTIONALLY, Kids KDP authors can also enroll in KDP Select Which Allows them to earn royalties through the Kindle and the Kindle Unlimited Owners’ Lending Library. They would then also have the ability use other marketing tools available are Select authors, like the Kindle Countdown Deals and Free Book Promotions.

The book creator tool does not just have to be for new authors looking for a way onto Amazon’s Kindle platform, however, but could also support established authors looking to convert Their books into a Kindle format in order to expand Their reader base.

The software is available as both a Mac and PC download, and lets chapter book authors import manuscripts in Word (doc / docx), as well as HTML, Mobi, ePub and other formats, so there is not much need for additional conversion tools. Meanwhile, illustrated book authors can import files in PDF, PNG, JPG, TIFF, and PPM formats.

“Kids” is now one of many genres KDP supports today, Which also includes categories like Literature, Business, Mystery / Thriller Non-Fiction, Romance, Sci-Fi, Teens / Young Adult and more. But children’s books are a Potentially growing category for Amazon, as the youngest generation of readers today will be using tablet devices even before Their First Birthday in many cases, and will be comfortable moving to a digital reading format having never remembered the era where hardbound and paperback books were your only choices for reading.

The announcement comes at a time when Amazon is embroiled in a battle with publisher Hachette, Which has put authors – and Their readers – in the middle. But it also comes at a time when indie publishing is on the rise, having produced a break-out hits (of questionable literary quality) like 50 Shades of Gray. It makes sense That Amazon would want to tap into this growing trend for other genres, too – Especially as it markets its own Kindle Fire tablets to families with small children, where features like the Kindle Free Time enable safe use of the device among ever-younger users, while other parental controls Encourage and rewarding on-device reading.

For church geeks: Liturgy of the Hours for Kindle Paperwhite – Patheos (blog)

photo (21)

If you’ve been itching for an edition of These prayers for your e-reader, the wait is over.

Universalis in July published an edition of The Liturgy of the Hours for the Kindle Paperwhite. (Various editions for the Kindle Fire have been around for a while, I’ve used both the iBreviary and Divine Office apps, and they’re both very good.) But if you do not have a tablet, or the ability to use apps, this could be the next best thing.

The pages are easy to navigate, and include all the hours, from the Invitatory to the Office of Readings and Complin and everything in between.

The one issue I have is the price. A complete year is $ 9.99 … Which Means you’d have to buy a new edition Annually. With the apps for tablets, you buy it once and you’re set for life. (Though you do have to download the prayers daily. If you are in a place with sketchy Wi-Fi-on retreat, or in a foreign country-that might be problematic.)

Nonetheless: the Paperwhite version Addition is a welcome, and should help make it more accessible These prayers are more people.

Let us pray!

Curious? If you have the Paperwhite, you can search for “Liturgy of the Hours,” and download a free sample.

UPDATE: A few people have pointed out the Universalis That translation is Not authorized for use in the United States. Based in the UK, Universalis uses the Grail Psalms and Jerusalem Bible.

Love in the Stacks: Kindle Worlds opens door to new fanfic – USA TODAY

This small not seem like a worthy topic for Happy Ever After, but fanfiction is finally getting the respect I believe it truly deserves. The recent launch of the Kindle Worlds has brought writing fanfiction from the dark corners of the Internet into the international spotlight. Readers can find fanfiction based on romantic favorites dry as Bella Andre’s Game for Love , HM Ward’s The Arrangement and Lucy Kevin’s Four Weddings and a Fiasco . Where writers were once publishing Their fanfiction on sites for free, they now have the opportunity to be published authors and make a profit from it. Readers can now continue some of Their favorite stories in a way that was never possible before, Which includes different characters and storylines within the original author’s world.

Kindle Worlds has brought television, movies, books, and comics are The publishing platform in a way that I never thought would be possible. As a fan of the television series Veronica Mars and its recent movie, I can now read any and all of the 19 books That fall within That specific Kindle World. Where I once searched sites like Archiveofourown.org or Fanfiction.net, I can now find professionally published stories That continue the adventures of my favorite teen sleuth (and her romance with bad-boy Logan Echolls.)

Screenshot of Kindle Worlds. (Photo: Kindle Worlds)

Readers can now find more romantic stories within Bella Andre’s Game for Love world, where more sexy athletes get a shot at love. Perhaps you want to continue reading stories That Involve alpha heroes from Barbara Freethy’s The Callaways series? Maybe you have an alpha hero of your own who would fit right in alongside the Callaways? Kindle Worlds That has made a reality. I get that a small fanfiction not be for everybody, and that’s OK. For someone like me, this opens a whole new set of doors for books to enjoy and potential books to publish myself. If you’re still Not convinced about this whole fanfiction thing, then let me give you a piece of evidence That might change your mind.

Fifty Shades of Grey .

It started out as Twilight fanfiction. The story was a different take on Edward and Bella. and it has since sparked a revolutionary change to the erotic romance industry. Some might say it is the reason That erotica is selling so well right now. It all started because a writer fell in love with two characters and wanted to continue Their story in a way that was previously not possible. What it has Proved To Me Is That it does not matter who an author is, who the characters are, or what the storyline is. If readers love a story, then That story has power. By allowing other fanfiction stories to be written, who knows what the romance industry might see in the near future? All it takes is for one person to write one book That Stirs something in the reader’s heart and then the world is faced with an international bestseller.

The future potential of the Kindle Worlds, and the types of stories that you ‘ can find there, is virtually limitless. As of right now there are a total of 26 worlds That readers can choose from, and they range from romantic favorites is surprising reads dry as GI Joe. Should Teen Wolf become an available world, you would certainly find my fanfiction available not long after. This also Applies to Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Charmed .

So, before you head on over to the Kindle Worlds to check it out for yourself, here are some suggestions of books you might enjoy.

Game for Love: Game On (Kindle Worlds novella) by Cat Johnson.

The Callaways: It’s Only Love (Kindle Worlds novella) by Carol Grace.

The Arrangement: The Seduction (Kindle Worlds novella) by Carly Phillips (yes, The Carly Phillips.)

Four Weddings and a Fiasco: The Wedding Date (Kindle Worlds novella) by Katy Regnery.

As always, feel free to start a discussion in the comments below and head on over to Twitter to share some of your favorite authors or series that you would like to see in the Kindle Worlds.
