Amazon Kindle for iPad and iPhone review - PC Advisor

Amazon Kindle for iOS review

The iPad is a great device for reading. And there are a variety of apps Solely focused on reading ebooks with the device-almost all of Which work on the iPhone, too. So how do you judge a reading app? What are the criteria? See iPad 4 review.

For me, I want an app with a pleasant reading experience-in other words, an app That gets out of the way and lets the words on the page shine. I also want an e-reading app to take advantage of the fact That it is an app: It Should offer benefits like a built-in dictionary, easy and fast navigation and search, and customization options. And an e-book app is only as good as the content you put into it, so I want a store with a massive ebook selection, and that’s ideally be easy to browse from my iOS devices, too. See our Amazon Kindle 5 (2012) review.

Amazon’s Kindle app Those shines on all fronts. That’s why-despite competition from no lesser than a giant Apple-it’s still the best e-reading option in the App Store.

In terms of getting out of the way: Tap on a page as you read in the Kindle app, and all the accoutrement-the buttons, the progress bar, the whatnot-vanish. It’s just you and the book’s text.

But the Kindle app still exploits its app-ness. You can customize its look in a variety of ways: You choose among three different themes (black text on white background, white text on black, or dark brown text on a sepia-toned background), a variety of fonts and font sizes, and three Widths different margin. There’s a built-in brightness control, too.

Kindle for iOS That said, there are two visual elements I’d like to adjust in the Kindle app, but can not: There’s no control for tweaking the line spacing (the vertical height between successive rows of text), and there’s no option to disable forced justification. (IBooks, for its part, does offer the latter option via the Settings app.)

Tap and hold on a word to see its definition, along with quick links to look up the word (or term) with Google or Wikipedia. Tap and drag to highlight text and add notes.

And

book navigation is very quick: Just swipe or tap to turn pages. Search results load fast, and are simple to navigate. And-unlike iBooks-Kindle can often offer real page numbers, too. As you read, you can see not just your “Kindle location,” but the analogous page number from the dead-tree edition of your book. That’s very helpful for book clubbers and others who want to make sure they’re (literally) on the same page as the regular old folks reading paper books.

Kindle

One missing feature-One That iBooks offers-is an option to see how many pages remain ‘in the current chapter. With each successive update to the Kindle app, I Hope that will feature Appear. So far, it has not.

Because Amazon uses a technology it calls Whispersync, your current page in a book in the Kindle app is synced to every other Internet-connected Kindle-reading experience you use: The desktop apps for Mac and PC, Kindle apps on other devices , and hardware Kindle e-readers and tablets. (IBooks books can be read Exclusively on iOS devices.)

Finally, there’s the store. App Store rules Prevent Amazon from linking to its store inside the Kindle app, but the iPad-optimized store atamazon.com / ipadkindlestore works great: It’s easy to search and easy to browse. And, of course, you can use the regular Amazon website from your computer to find books, and they’ll Appear within the Kindle app automatically. (Apple prefers you browse the iBookstore via iTunes on your computer, or the iBooks app on your iOS device.)

Amazon’s Kindle bookstore selection is huge. Amazon says it has more than 1 million books; By comparison, Apple says its iBookstore now offers more than 1.5 million books. Where once the Kindle store’s selection made Apple’s offering look paltry, that’s no longer the case, the stores-lofts marketing-aside numbers are roughly comparable.

iBooks is very good, too. But the Kindle app shines in many ways, and it works great. If you’d rather avoid iOS lock-in for your ebooks, there are a few disappointments to the Kindle app experience.

Updated yesterday at 1:44 PM

HOUSTON – The National Retail Federation says moms are moving into the 21st century, and tablets and other electronics will be among the most popular Mother’s Day gifts this year.

Just in time, Barnes & Nobile and Amazon have launched Mother’s Day Deals On Their popular line of tablets.

The 7-inch Nook HD is selling for $ 150 instead of $ 200, or you can get the larger 9-inch version for $ 180 This is a savings of 30 percent.

Amazon responded with a deal of its own: $ 20 of its Kindle Fire tablets. Pricing on Those start at $ 160 dollars, but the newer HD version with a better display similar to the Nook HD’s will cost you $ 180

So

Which should you buy for mom

If she likes watching movies and looking at photos, go with the Nook HD. It has better picture quality.

If she likes downloading and toying around with new apps, go with the Kindle Fire, since its app store is about the times larger and has a lot of Android apps.

Warning: if mom says she wants an iPad, spend the extra money (maybe wait until her birthday or Christmas) and get her the iPad. If she has her heart set on an iPad, she probably will not be happy with anything else, even though the Nook and the Kindle are very good products.

Numerkoza used - dobreprogramy

The fact that the Internet has become for us a treasure trove of knowledge, I do not need to convince anyone. Especially during oko?omaturalnym when the supreme act of desperation for power is searched abstracts of required reading, because you need to know something.

Zonk, Doll was not.

Zonk, dolls were gone.

Dear Uncle Google, Wikipedia good old aunt, cousin pulls – the list goes on. More rarely digs in the search further, satisfied with the results of the first page. Nay, even the top three. And so terrible, but it annoys me terribly treatment as the sanctity of what they wrote in their offer … seller on eBay.

Before you raise the voices of opposition and disappointment over the state of the world in which you can not trust anyone or anything, let me go back for about six months, in the middle of the pre-Christmas clutter. It has become our student tradition that before every Christmas, we meet with three of my friends and arranged the small rozjedziemy the eve before the Lower and Upper Silesia. The rules are simple – each of us is preparing something to eat, exchanging gifts, and our guys can join us for some time after. And most of all – we talk, we talk and we talk. Not necessarily on the topics oko?o?wi?teczne.

What are gossiping three historians at the table? Of course, books. And as we’re on the books, can not miss the readers, especially when in the same room we find two kundalini. One older, almost annual, lived with me the journey to Ukraine and a nightmare at the border crossing for pedestrians, the second – barely month toddler, so chic in her fragrant new case, as if he came from Paris.

When EMPiK began to appear in the first series of OYO readers, none of us thought that soon we will be for the purchase of such miracles (which miraculously was not really, but it There is one story), let alone Kindle for download from the States. Prices on eBay is also not encouraged.

And so it’s been a few months, when the paws A. appeared in “Reader”. Big, heavy cattle with LCD screen, which do not fulfill its function for me, but if A is like, why would I need for this? Anyway, about the adventures of A. beast could create several separate entries. Just that since he got his mongrel I’m with him virtually inseparable when calf A. practically never left her room, I was just not handy.

this way, other students (and teachers, by the way), started coming to me with questions regarding the purchase of the reader or even just check “on the back reads”. Time was flying, once slowly, sometimes quickly, Amazon announced the release of Paperwhite’a , also appeared Classic version with black housing and increasingly began to talk about the Kindle fifth This coincided in time with the decision to change A reader and the decision to buy Kundla. By Allegro – and, of course, because how else, bought the reader the latest of the latest, at the auction bears great, okr?glutka “5″. And it’s a promotion, for only 50 gold more expensive than for K4 …

For those who are not familiar with Amazonowymi readers, I will explain. The cheapest Kindle reader is Classic (in the U.S. also known as Non Touch or Kindle NT ), having software version 4 Unlike its predecessors, does not have a slot for an SD card or the ability to play audio files. In addition, we also Kindle Touch , which was built more memory than Classic and the ability to play audio books, the touch screen is not saying. After the release of Paperwhite’a model has been withdrawn from regular sales, but sometimes it happens that Amazon brings the opportunity to purchase it for a few hours or days. Ideal for hunters Promotion. ? The list of the “old” models closes Kindle Keyboard , with a keyboard and a little bit larger than other readers. keyboard is a K3. I made a fuss.

Amazon by launching a new reader does not use numbered subsequent editions, he tried to talk more about “generations”. But in September 2011, made changes in the naming of the brand. “Kindle third generation” became Kindle Keyboard version without the keyboard has been called simply Kindle. And that nature abhors a vacuum, change the name was considered the next generation, hence the “4″ at Classicu . Okay, but where is five?

Classic , the only one, has two color options – gray (one might say, classical), and black. Amazon announced a change to the “line” Classic , but gave no further details, as this change was affected. Speculation on the network grew, so when the sale appeared black version (the gray was temporarily withdrawn), was spread like hot cakes, as the “Five” is. Because it clearer screen, housing in a beautiful, saturated color, and generally runs faster. Beauty! Only after the euphoria quickly comes to his senses and so it was this time. Readers differed only in color, software version was exactly the same. A difference between the screens are normal, which is usually about a half tone. Moreover, the same conditions in which the photo was taken, can affect the quality and there is nothing surprising in this.

Hey, Why make an effort with the new version!'ll change color casing and it does not KAPN!

Hey, why make an effort with the new version! Change the color of the casing and it does KAPN

this Kindle Paperwhite , the first Amazonowy reader with backlit screen, a software version 5 Update to “5″ also received holders Kindle Touch . If we are so insistent talk about the Kindle 5, this name should refer to one of these two models. But it is not. The simple reason – Paperwhite and Touch are in a sense by themselves. While Classic appears on the market usually under the “clean” the name of the Kindle, the other three readers (the two mentioned above plus keyboard ) is said to be normally using the generic name. Because simpler and easier, and probably also more understandable.

What is the eve of my student and discussion with readers? That at some point in the future “worse half” (and my “better” stayed home and worked on some great hipertajnym design allows it to conquer the world, or at least blog DP., P) and began a discussion about the superiority Kindle 5 (a belonging to A.) ??on my old, good-natured Czwóreczk?. To make it more fun, the two readers that gray version Classica . Shredded into perhaps in vain for a moment to be captured arguments such as “I think I know what I bought,” or “you are jealous and so”. A Crown evidence was to be brought by the vendor receipt attached to the purchase, in which a bull It showed “Kindle 5″. We started from scratch, but this time it was the largest by the reader himself. Another case? Pull it out from the cover, lay face down and see how they differ. Yes, your screen is a bit brighter, but it is normal for the E-incubation. And you can bet that the version of the software is the same. But I absolutely understand that this pi?teczka on the receipt was worth the 50 gold …

Ok, probably it could be worse ...

Ok, perhaps it could be worse …

Just out of curiosity I looked at Alledrogo now … and almost nothing has changed. Still we sell Kindle Kindle 4 and 5, only the price difference between the cheapest deals fell to 40 z? (though in both cases we have a version of gray, rather than black, which was passed for K5). On the other hand cheapest Mongrel 4 on eBay (for 299 z?) is a version refubrished . For 350 gold easily can “choose” between 4 and 5, also in a black version.

I realize that marketing Kindle 5 is a lot better. That we train for something new, better and more efficient. That something in us sitting and makes exclude rational thinking. But I think it would be good if we were able to check the parameters of equipment on a different page than the Allegro. The ideal would be the manufacturer’s website, but sometimes hampered by the language barrier. And on the one hand I understand the sellers that specify sold products bearing a higher number on it, because how else, if they want customers to buy K5, because somewhere on the web find the information that is the latest model, the best and all. But to be honest, I’m waiting until the dealer who Kindle Paperwhite will be referred to as “6″ and the only one to provide the masses of Poles seeking the written word hot news from Amazon. Probably about to live to see. How not to Paperwhite , it can, however, with the old and pretentio us Kindle Classic ?
